Hi Everyone,

Looking for an answer to help me finish procuring the parts for my MMi 3G retrofit.

I have an A5 Sportback 2012, purchased a mmi 3G high HDD, screen and control panel from an Audi A4 Allroad 2011 model

I've procured everything else for the retrofit and fitted it all, the only thing I overlooked was the gateway controller and need to know which of these will work

Now according to ETKA these are the latest part numbers:

8R0 907 468 P - Found under the Audi A5 section

or

8T0 907 468 AJ - Found under the Audi A4 section

I'm a bit worried as to which one I should buy, they are both identical in terms of PR code functionality. I assume that they are identical but if that's the case why does one start with 8T0 and the other 8R0? surely if they where identical then Audi would have just put them under the same part code number wouldn't they?

Also which is the correct one for my retrofit, based on the fact that it is an A5 however the 3G Nav HDD unit is from an A4

Should I order the 8T0 model or the 8R0 model? or doesn't it really matter?

Hope someone can clear this up for me, its that last piece to my puzzle and after an 8 hour install of the system i'm itching to get it working and booked in for component protection removal

You need an A5 Gateway, the 5F unit can be made to work on other models but gateway is specific to cars. Remember when you fit a new gateway most of the modules on the car will go into component protection, instrument cluster, air-con, airbags, central electrics, etc etc..

thanks I was just about to checkout on ebay.de for an 8T0 one. I found an 8R0 C model on ebay for £40 which isn't bad considering its £170 from the dealers however it doesnt have ACC which I was hoping to retrofit later

If you can wait then send the one from ebay to kufatec and they will update the software to the latest version and enable ACC.

ooooo, didn't know they could do that - any idea how much they charge? my local garage who are an independent audi garage but yet I rate better than the Bradford dealership may probably be able to do this when I take it in for the component protection removal

I only know of kufatec in the UK at can do this firmware update. CAN Gateway Software Update - Audi - VW-38144

Has your independent got VAS with gecko access as this is the only way to remove component protection, very few independents have this.

Yes they have, german Autocare based in Leeds West Yorkshire - I took my a5 for its very first service there instead of the main dealership as I was that impressed wih their service knowledge and helpfulness - as soon as I mentioned retrofit to my main dealers it was like they wanted to burn me alive for even mentioning such a task - GA have helped me every step of the way

i don't think svm is as rare as you assume, there are people on eBay offering the service for £35

Also lost faith in kufatec, I asked them 4 questions before I was ready to purchase a wiring harnes, it took them 4 to 7 days to reply, dread to think how long it takes them to actually reprogram and return a gateway if they can't answer a single sentence email - I got frustrated with waiting on them in the end and bought it from VNS media who pawned me off when I revived the kit and asked for some basic instructions like you get with the kufatec one - at least they where £80 cheaper

The license to access the VW online database is ££££ a year, and very few specialists are willing to pay the costs. There is one company on ebay offering the service which I'm not surprised at as I bet they are trying to recuperate the cost of the licensing. Also the cost they charge (£65 - £35 is just for a print out!) is just about the same that Audi dealers charge (1/2 hour labour).

Kufatec UK have lost the plot I've dealt direct with kufatec Germany and never had a problem, you could try contacting them directly, also kufatec Uk send the gateway to kufatec Germany anyway so you may and try sending it directly.

Very few dealerships be it Audi or specialists are clueless about retrofiting, their money is made by servicing and repairing cars.
