Hi guys,

New to the forum but had a quick flick through the forum looking for the issues I described and not much help!!

I managed to acquire a nice white a4 for 60 pound off my friend, it was to be scrapped and was in pieces and I go curious so decided to have play to see if I could get the lovely doing anything at all!

Needless to say 5 minutes later I managed to get it to strike up and it runs sweet a a nut! I'm shocked, 2 weeks later of various works done to get it ready for mot and suddenly the immobiliser shuts me down after 2 seconds !!

I can disconnect the battery, short the terminals together and cold reset the car and it starts straight away, but after I turn it off and back on, straight immobilised !? I cannot figure it out, the fact that it starts once suggests all the modules and components to the immo system is fine but I can't make it work! I've tried new ignition switch, swapped fuses, tried replacing all relays, wd40 on the connector absolutely everything to no avail,

Yet it starts all the time when cold reset ? It's missing it's central locking system in boot if that can effect it? But any help with this problem id be grateful!

The codes the tester I have give
P1570
P1602

My theories are:
Faulty RFID reader in barrel
Faulty IMO ecu
Faulty key (it's a state!) but the IMO chips intact
Poor voltage conditions? Obd diagnostics occasionally reports low voltage but tried brand new batteries and nothing,

Guess what I'm saying is I don't want to spend willy nilly for a lost cause :/ but I really like the car as my first audi !

Any help would be appreciated !!

A pic of what 60 quid got me ! :)

Cheers

you got a lot for you're cash there...

I would check all the connections are properly seated at the ecu and there is no dampness in there.
I would check for water ingress at the drivers foot well.

I don't think the central locking pump being missing would cause this problem.
has your car only got 1 pipe for the locking pump? just with it being an early one I know my old car only had one pipe.
if so I still have the central locking pump I removed from my old car from when I stripped the car.

Hey thanks for the reply!

The whole car got flooded with water via the front dash iirc I've sorted out the drain plugs and wallah she no longer gathers water, the ecu definitely is dry and I did reseat all connectors however I will do it again to be absolutely sure!

Yeah I believe it's a single pipe setup but have been unable to find one locally so far :(

I have dried the car out as much as I can but is there something more water can cause damage specifically to??

Thanks
Michael

being the early car they say there's another box up behind the dash that controls the Immobiliser im not sure what this looks like..
your clocks are not coded but I would pull them out as this would give you a better look behind the dash.

I have the single pipe one here if you get your starting problem fixed out you can make me an offer on it.
I was close to putting it on eBay last week when I was clearing the garage I just hadnt got that far yet

Another box?? Can you find out more please I've only got the one box so far which seems to deal with interfacing to the clocks !!

I've had a bit if a look, in trying to decide if previous owners have bodged wiring over the past few years as it's not very neat back there and my radio doesn't retain a live constant feed which is getting annoying because the reset keeps happening on it and I lose all the settings :/

Can you keep hold of the unit please? I assume it's got the 6 pin central plug too?

Thanks again!

yea it was removed from an early 96 a4. I will get a picture for you when get chance.

a quick search and I found this.. hope it helps

"the immobiliser is just behind the plastic panel wich is just in front of your right knee when you are sitting in the drivers seat , to remove it you will need to look straight up from the floor to see the retaining bolts (10mm) there is also two inside the fuse box cover on the end of the dash panel when you open the drivers door (on right hand drive cars ).Remove the plastic trim panel and there it is if I remember correctly it,s a white box , I just gently removed the wires (block connectors) cleaned them again very gently and sprayed them with WD40 replaced them"

A4 immobiliser problem !!!!! - Audifans.net

Yeah I've read that, the white box is intact and I've fine the wd40 on the connectors and still no luck :( I've opened the box and checked for corrosion ect and the module looks in brand new condition :/ maybe I need to trace the wires and check their corespondent connectors ?

What I don't understand is why it starts after shorting the battery terminals together and re applying them to battery, it just suggests there's nothing wrong but then like I said i restart it again and it's immo is active :S

Thanks for all the help ! I appreciate it.

Is that the unit on the end of the barrel?? That might help me rule out the things I have on the list? Are these all 95 compatible ?

Don't suppose you took the lights and wiper stalks off too? Haha you might be the man to fully restore my audi haha, I'll be in touch soon about buying the parts, will remove the reader coil and that too then will buy them from you, where are you based?

I did but the wiper stalk is for an avant.. but Im sure I have a saloon one there.
Im located in central Scotland what about you?

North East lincs lol, guess I won't be picking them up, yeah I need the full lot wiper side and light side as the stalks have all stopped functioning correctly even after a rebuild, I'll get in touch soon and will keep you updated on the motor.

Thanks again jb
