The S4 build wait thread

I knew about the reload, but didn't realise I was suppose to be using a specific maintenance Shampoo? might give this stuff a try

You won't do any harm to the coating with other shampoos (I'll be using Britemax Clean Max). The way Nick explained it to me is if the beading seems not to be as pronounced as it was you can use Reset to errrr..... reset it. I plan on getting some and maybe using it every couple of months but not as my regular shampoo.

Excellent news, sorry if you have already posted this but what spec did you go for?

Our cars will be old hat when you get yours ;-) all I can say is that after 6 weeks of ownership it is just as enjoyable as new apart from the b***dy stone chips!!

If yours will be old hat, mine will be positively vintage! But I hear vintage is 'in' at the moment, so that's something.

I've been polishing mine this week and I can empathise with the stone chips. My bonnet has them in abundance. I'll be getting a front end respray next year.

Still here too. Top tip if you don't have a petrol loyalty card now is the time to get one. :)

Hi Scotty
Hows the detail holding up? I'm realising Daytona is a ****** to keep clean
Hey Keef. Car is mucky. Wheels are worst but jet wash off easily enough. We've had a bit of rain last weekend and beading is doing well. It's what I expected. There are no miracle coatings and anything that claims otherwise is just marketing. :) But very pleased with Finest.

Will post a 1000 mile review when I get there. But sneak peak is : car great but just cannot get the seat how I want it.

So I tried to take some photos of it but it looks pretty shiny. I promise this car is covered in a fine layer of dust and dirt, it just doesn't look it which is testament to how shiny the base coating is.

But from a distance, you'd never know...

Cheers guys, I'm not looking forward to the stone chips either....plus I know I'm going to have to allow more time visiting places like the supermarket - to allow half an hour of sweating over my parking space indecision!! - There's nothing like the bliss of ignorance when the car is old!
Magrillz, I went for: black edition avant, Daytona, sports diff, damper control, tech pack, fold/heat mirrors, seg spoke alloys, storage pack, rear blinds, hill hold

Yeah I've noticed a few stone chips on the front of mine!

Scotty cant believe you still haven't hit 1k miles - I'm nearly on 3K!
Mines is like yours, looks clean from far - but dusty up close.

If I'm honest, I'm struggling to keep mine looking clean beyond first day of washing,
Have also noticed a couple of, what can only be described as cloudy patches in the paint!?
Going to take some pics or even video and send to Nick to get his thoughts / advice.

But generally, car still puts a huge smile on my face every day when I drive :racer:

I hear ya, that's why I bought the wife a car - A) so she wouldn't drive mine, and B) for weekend trips into town and shopping.
But I still look like a right pleb in car parks, driving around looking for the perfect space, only to return to see a beat-up piece of crap parked right-up close...Argh!!

Ah, the way of the world! I tend to let some people get some extra walking in, which does not always go down well. Wife has never marked any of her cars, but she does seem to get a lot of dents from shopping centre car parks and at work - where she knows that no one would do that and not own up - oh really? I think that sometimes my wife might just be joking when I don't park at the far end of car parks, either that or she really does like to walk a bit! My S4 likes to hide in the garage - unless a long fastish run is on the cards, with no unnecessary stops along the way!

TBH mate my Dolphin Grey B7 was not that easy to keep clean. The black S4 is only marginally worse! :) Is the clouding a permanent thing? I used to find my B7 often had what I'd describe as "shadows" in the paint, more pronounced after waxing. I never did find a solution and in the end decided that it was just a characteristic of the colour in certain light conditions.

I asked about it on DW Shadows in paint after waxing - what am I doing wrong? - Detailing World

but as I said it was an issue that seemed to come and go over the 4 years I had the car.

On my B7 the only door dents I acquired were all from the work car park. They should have confessed but no one ever did. I blame the company car brigade naming no names *cough* "sales". :)

I have a garage but it's full of kids bikes and gardening stuff. Besides it was built in 1985 so comfortably fits a MK1 Golf and does not like anything built in the year 20XX.

Just gone over 3000 miles - just too good not to drive fuel consumption probably gone up slightly average around 27, not unhappy and as previously said good for tesco club points or shell rewards. Using tesco momentum or shell nitro at the moment. Other than that all I can add is that it is worth the wait. Also - galaxy white isn't too bad to keep clean!

Love black but was always avoiding it because my last 3 audis were & vowed not to repeat, after reading some helpful threads I was hoping Daytona was going to be a decent compromise & an improvement in the cleaning dept?!

Think I'd manage an Austin 7 in mine!

Oooh that would be nice to have, I've a decent sized double garage, kept in control so that two cars can still live in it (can get really crap cold winters), B8 S4 + 5 door 9N Polo 1.4 SE is just possible, does not work with a 3 door 6L Ibiza though, so wife's next car must be 5 door - hope the 6R or whatever Polo is in 5 door form fits though. Though long term plan has been to add on a side extension, if lucky enough, to be wide enough for a normal/small car, if only to decant some stuff from each side of the garage - well that has been a long term plan!

Done silver. This is my first black car. Thus the universe balances. :)

You're just making me jealous now rum4' ;-)

Just an FYI rum4mo, there's a Polo R coming... 250bhp!

Someone on the Polo forum is selling a "GT Blue" and that has 150PS, but as it is the 1.4TSI engine with ACT I'd rather give it a miss, and Parkers don't list it so can't get an indicative price. She really does not like her 1.4 75PS Polo as it is gutless, previous car was a 1.6 90PS Fiesta, I'm a bit nervous about buying a secondhand Polo 1.2 TSI 105PS as these engines have been as troublesome as the 2.0 TFSI has been. Trouble is we are looking after/own my daughter's 6L Ibiza SC 1.4 85PS and that car is quite nippy as it is a lot lighter than Polo 9N and has 10PS extra, but it is only a 3 door car, daughter might return to UK in a year, or might manage to "escape" to OZ, being a good parent I'm trying to keep Ibiza so that if she returns in a year, she can buy her car back, and then wife will get her next car, all a bit in flux, and another year of having an extra car in my driveway! The Polo R would just make wife too happy - she has not driven my S4 yet - and I've had it for a year!

9N2 GTI? Or 130TDI PD GT?

Both of them will be very heavy when compared the later models, plus one of them uses smelly fuel, main problem with smelly fuel is that you might have forgotten where the service station is by the time you need to refuel it! Or, S4 might get annoyed if it gets fuelled with DERV! I've probably had my fill of 9N/9N2 Polos over the past almost 12 years, time to find out about VAG's newer problems, one problem seems to be getting a colour that suits!

Been a lurker on this thread for a few months but decided to put my head above the parapet and say hello. I placed an order for an S4 back on the 17th April and was assigned build week 31 by Audi which translated into the last week of July. I called up the dealer at the end of last month just to check everything was still on track but got called back later in the day to say there was a problem. Build week pushed out to week 41. Gutted. So instead of getting the car in the first week of September with the new 64 plate I now have to wait until November.
I have to say the dealer was very apologetic and kicked up a storm with Audi UK. Audi UK are now going to give me a replacement car from the beginning of September that is of an equal standard to my ordered car. I have copied and pasted my spec sheet for those that are interested below. Looks like everyone going for Daytona these days. I was tempted to change to Sepang when the new colours came out a few months ago but decided to stick with Daytona as I like the darker colour with the dark rotors and polished mirrors. So very similar spec to a lot of cars on here apart from the fact I decided to go for the Beaufort Oak Aluminium trim which was a bit overpriced and I haven't seen in a car yet but I thought what the hell. Only aftermarket mods I will be going for will be a Viper Alarm as my previous car was a B6 Audi S4 Moro Blue and which on more than one occasion got the wing mirrors whipped off so I am quite sensitive to little rascals trying to damage or steal my pride and joy. Incidentally that car was also ordered from new and Audi also messed me around on build weeks back then as well ended up being 5 months late as the car had only just been released. I will probably write to complain to them but definitely no complaints with the dealer so far. Much better than the muppets I ordered the B6 from. Spec below.
It is an Audi S4 Black Edition Avant Pearl - Daytona grey/ Lunar Silver SU Interior, 4 Year or 75000 Mile Warranty, Audi drive select, Damper control , Advanced key, Fine nappa leather upholstery with S4 super sports seats, Heated front seats with individual controls and variable temperature adjustment, Ski-bag + through load, Aluminium beaufort inlay, Electric folding and auto dimming door mirrors, Open sky electric tilt/slide panoramic sunroof with front/rear sunshade, Quattro sports differential, Storage pack - A4, Technology pack with HDD Sat Nav.

Thanks for all the informative posts over the few months, really helped me out in deciding the spec to go for. Cheers and roll on November.

Welcome!
- same build week as me & I only ordered last month! - is this an 'S4 Daytona avant build week' I wonder?! lovely spec mate & great colour (of course)
At least we can share our excitement?! :)

Sorry to hear about your issues btw.

Thats really bad, I ordered early July and the dealer tells me its been 'locked' in for production w/c 8th September. My spec is nowhere near as extensive as yours though. I wonder if its the pano roof thats causing the delay :detective2:

Hi David. It was your post about being build week 41 that prompted me to contribute to the forum. I have no idea whether it was an aspect of the spec or just poor logistics on Audis' part. Still annoyed I will not be driving around in a 64 plate at the beginning of September. Hope all goes well with your order and looking forward to sharing the wait with somebody. Cheers

The expression 'locked in' was used with me for week 31. In fact a few weeks after I placed the order the dealer sent me a screenshot of the order screen on his side and said that is us locked in for that week. The fact he still had that email in his sent items folder allowed him to go back and complain to Audi and get the courtesy car. He told me that if he hadn't done that Audi would probably have told me tough luck. Hopefully your ok and order is locked in for that week and you don't get messed around as I did. I hadn't considered the spec would have affected it but you might be right. Cheers

Oh no! Got me worried now. I've restrained my pestering to once a month until we get closer to the planned build date but I've been receiving screenshots of the dealers order system as well showing the progression from provisional build week to 'locked' build week. My car was an existing unallocated build which the dealer then allocated and modified to my spec so not sure if that makes any difference or not. Probably not. I would also phone Audi HQ yourself and kick up a stink to see if they can move things further for you or at least offer some other sweetener for the extended wait. BMW are on a 6-8 week lead time from order to delivery, you could try threatening them with that to see if it yields any results.

I wonder if this faffing by Audi has anything to do with the B8.5 nearing the end of its life...?

I sometimes worry about my forthcoming Audi customer experience, I've had such a mare in the past with another well known german marque that I hope the future is brighter..?!

Seems to be very little info on the new A/S4. My limited experience of Audi ( Yeovil and Taunton) has been good so far, very helpful sorting out minor post delivery issues.

No real images, mainly artist renderings. They say it's dropped 1-200kg and the front will be further updated to be in line with the current brand 'look.' Engines will be broadly the same (RS4 is expected to be smaller engine with twin turbos) with small power hikes and there'll be a plug in version. Most of it is conjecture though. I was hoping it would be shown off now actually as then Audi would bring it to ADI as their 'new tech' - but I suspect that will be the TT this year.
