So I've done a little searching about thumping from the rear of my 2.5tdi Quattro sport avant, from what I've read, it sounds like I need new diff mount bushes but then just read v6 _quattros thread on torson diff.

Could anyone give any experience and remedies of this. What's this of filling the bush with a tube of something or other anyone having good results with this method to rule things out.

It happens on mine when turning in 1st/2nd, worse on an incline. Sounds like it's grabbing for traction.

Got the same clunk on mine but convinced its the mounts. On the list of 'to do's'....

Have a look at: Apikol AUDI REAR DIFF MOUNT (B6, B7)

Refers to:

"Helps to alleviate drivetrain movement (clunks) when shifting and transitioning on and off the throttle.

Eliminating drivetrain movement restores your vehicles crisp, tight feel."

Also worth a read: Rear Differential Noise

Again mentions mounts......

Speaking to a friend who knows everything about A4s, and I trust his advice to the ends of the earth (he reasearches the hell out of everything and looks for the best solution), recommends filling the old mount with silicone (apparently its a floating spiderweb type mount) fixes the problem for about £3.......!!!!!!!

Once I've done mine I'll report back!

So do I. RS4 handling !

It would make roundabouts fun.

NOTE: It is common with this mod to notice a slight chatter when making u-turns at low speeds. This is due to the modification to make it bias differently under power and at high speeds. Normal daily driving it is not noticeable.

Hey, that was a useful couple of links above, interesting that it says the 5 speed 01A centre diff has a high failure rate (The one I have) but also good to see someone has the same problem too ( Described to a T by the audiforums thread) and it was solved by replacement
