Audi S3 8P3 with the usual mods...

You've certainly been busy, and I hope you enjoy the results.
For 360bhp,you shouldn't need a higher flow LPFP system,as the S3's pump is good for around 440bhp before it maxes out,and it may also be worth your while taking a look at some of the problems with RS pumps being fitted to S3s,over on VAGOC.
There is an uprated(basically RS3) PWM controller available, but as I say,for anything below a big turbo conversion, you don't really need to uprate the pump.
On the suspension side, you'll get far more out of the ALK kit you've bought, plus the ARB upgrade, and a decent set of coilovers, than you'll get from the Haldex controller.
Yes,it makes a difference, but it's not a big difference compared to the other things.
i'm enjoying trying to get the most out of the s3 as unfortunately it didn't really blow my mind when i first got the car...

thanks for the info regarding the lpfp, i had read it wasn’t necessary but i'm lining myself up for a 250kw atw upgrade and thought the original pump will be on the limits by then...

i also recently acquired the following code and thought the pump and ancillaries may help with removing the error. along with the pump i will be fitting the rs4 fuel pump control module (8E0906071B afaik), the g410 thrust sensor (06E906051K) and a new fuel filter. i appreciate the error could be a simple as the fuel filter alone but don’t want to take any chances...

coilovers are on the list and waiting for the right set to become available...

Great read through, cheers mate and the cars a beaut'!!! ;)

thanks mate, appreciate the feedback...

what does the 'stock' 'race' and 'eco' so to the haldex?

Race is tis the one where it does 50-50 after 50% throttle?
and eco just turns it off? but i thought it was off all the time unless wheels spinning up?

i think S3Alex post is the best explanation...

Nice build thread mate, keep it up. Some lovely mods done well.

cheers mate, a bit more to do yet but i'm getting there...

finally decided which wheel size i'm going for, going to look at a 2nd hand set this arvo to see what condition they are in…

retract by 3mm but that should help with the slight rubbing i'm currently getting...

test fitted the wheels, i didn't plan on keeping them and only bought them to trial the size. they fit...

actually kind of like them, wondering whether to get them refurbished and keep them now. i don't like the chrome trim though, will probably get them sprayed same colour as front splitter and rear valance...

decided to finish off the non smokers pack by removing the ashtray. it's been a long time since i've smoked bifta's so i thought the cubby might come in more useful for throwing my phone / house keys etc…

the usual before photo…

removed the gear gaiter…

placed a cloth down and used a plastic trim removal tool to remove the top trim…

ashtray all removed and light taped out of the way…

new cubby installed…

and the usual after photo…

wasn't sure it was all the effort and skinned knuckles once i was finished. hopefully i'll appreciate it the next time i'm looking for somewhere to throw my phone after checking a street address etc. while parked with the handbrake applied, obviously...

i managed to get the antenna sorted recently, started by removing the inner boot lid trim...

a quick shot of the original setup so i could remember how it was in case it all went pete tong...

the original unit in the top of the boot lid...

a quick shot of the wire colour coding...

and the colour coding at the bottom...

hooked up then new cable to test the length and make sure it reaches the unit in the bottom of the boot lid...

once i knew the cable was long enough it was time to make the basic loom...

a quick retest before i wrapped it...

once i knew it worked i wrapped both the new loom and extension cable...

and now all installed, looking pretty oem i reckon...

now it just needs resetting with vagcom and the fault code removing. no doubt i'll be asking another favour of mr walsh, please mate. and if the fault code comes back i'll cry...

this has just turned up, looking forward to getting it fitted next week and trying out the zero to one hundered feature...

i've started getting my ideas together for the water meth installation...

started to install my new gauge...

really wasn't looking forward to messing around with removing the plastic bits from the vent and thought it would be easy to damage. it was a bit tricky but not that difficult at all...

after probably over 6 months of ownership i finally got around to installing my shifter bushes, and what a difference it makes. much more positive shift...

wheels finally back from the refurbers and installed...

wrapped in fresh rubber, goodyear f1a2's in 235/35R19...

obligatory wheel whores sticker...

and air freshener...

so against my better judgement i've decided to install a rear reversing camera, this retro fitting thing gets addictive…

i have the kufatec multimedia adaptor "basic" from when i bought the car. as far as i can see i need a couple of extra items and i'm good to go. going to cost about 150 beans all up so at that price it would be rude not to, even if it is for girls…

RNS-E Gen 2 afaik (already came with car)
Kufatec Multimedia Adaptor Basic Product Nr.: 35537 (already came with car)
Kufatec IMA - Harness - Audi RNS-E - "Basic"/"Basic-Plus" Product Nr.: 35542 (already came with car)
Kufatec IMA - Harness - Rear View Camera Auto Switch - Audi RNS-E Product Nr.: 35676 (ordered and arrived)
Kufatec Adapter - additional video Integration Product Nr.: 35570 (ordered and arrived)
Waterproof 140 Degree Car Rear View CMOS PAL Video Camera (ordered and arrived)
Standard RCA Splitter Audio Video Cable (ordered and arrived)
Standard Automotive Relay Switch and Wiring Harness (ordered and arrived)
a couple of extra bits to get the camera to work. it should activate automatically once reverse is engaged…

first up i decide to wire in the multimedia adaptor and test the ipod connection, can’t beat the kings...

next up was the rearview camera...

a pretty tidy job...

i don't think its that obvious either...

and it works, just a bit of tidying up to do now then more coding...

thanks to woorlord on here i managed to get the rnse to switch between ipod and reverse camera when reverse gear is engaged...

i started out with these bits...

and even with basic knowledge it wasn’t too hard to rig this up (the black tape was to remind me that it was the camera, or may be the ipod, i’m not sure)...

i then carefully removed the reverse light pin and connected a wire to run through to the relay and c2 pin on the back of the rnse...

wire in place and taped back up, i reckon you'd never know it has been added...

the end result is this video, but i still can’t get it to auto flick to the tv on the rnse, damn it...

OK.

You need then to be very careful about which pump and controller you buy,as there are issues with the S3's own PWM controller overheating with uprated pumps.

USP Motorsports sell both pumps and controllers, plus an auxiliary pump system that I have on my own car.

Check them all out first.

thanks again mate, i have already purchased the USP Drop In High Flow Fuel Pump: FSI/TSI and was planning on going with the oem rs4 controller combo. the contoller that usp sell claims to be an oem unit so i don't think it is something they produce and guess it could be the rs4 unit...

do you know anything about this combo please?

If you register on VAGOC there are a few people who've used the drop in pumps and all of the issues etc are on there.

USP have been great for sorting things out for me and mine was done before the RS3 pump was around hence the auxiliary pump setup on it.

all my parts listed from page 1 have now shown up, i guess its time to start planning that bt build…

450bhp and 450 ft/lbs sounds like good numbers for a daily driver…

450lbs would certainly save you from an engine rebuild, and give you a good daily driver.

Which kit did you decide on for the turbo?

not sure yet mate, toying up between cts, loba, tarmac engineering or something else…

any advice would be much appreciated...

I have an ATP kit, which was pretty much it whan I was originally doing this.

Now,I would be thinking of either the:

CTS kit, which offers a lot of flexibility in terms of turbo and eventual power
APR GTX2867,which is a good off-the-shelf kit for anyone who doesn't want a full engine rebuild for over 500bhp.

For a bolt-on hybrid solution, the Loba is well worth a look.

I can't fault the kit on mine,as it's worked perfectly for 30 000 miles, and coped with each upgrade, but it does require a bit of work to make it fit an RHD car.

I took a quick look at Tarmac Engineering's site,and their 500bhp Golf R.

The basic spec is similar to mine with the exception of their turbo, which is smaller, and what I can't tell is which kit they used, although both CTS and ATP use cast manifolds,so it could be either of those.

i did consider the apr kit mate but though that would mean binning half the mods i already have so trying to avoid that...

going to have a chat with these guys in the coming weeks to see if they can supply and install a suitable set-up...

I can understand that, and both Tarmac and BPS are sort of local to you, which will make a big difference also when it comes to any sort of backup.
The spec on that looks very similar to Tarmac's setup,so you may want to find out who's selling what, and aside from the intake, exactly which kit or parts they're using.

just ordered some interior bling, i said i wasn’t going overboard this time and will try and make this my last interior modification. it should be quiet a nice place to be once all this lot is fitted...

the s3 switch is to turn on/off the wmi and i’ll mount the wmi status light behind the audi rings cover. last thing i need to work out is where i mount the boost controller and wmi gauge (if i need both or either). then my interior is complete, apart from maybe fixing my alpine 425i and maybe anything else i come up with in the mean time...

while scratching around on the net for a billet oil dipstick and i came across this obd splitter cable (not sure how). one thing that had been annoying me about my p3 gauge is that i have to unplug it every time i need to connect the vcds. now i dont...

its the little things that make me happy, yes i know i'm strange...

Really enjoying this build. More or less taking the same route my car has been down.

How did you find the charge and dis-charge pipes to make a difference? was there any, albeit sound wise or performance wise? I was thinking about getting them.

thanks mate, it's pretty hard to tell what improvements have been made when you change more than one thing at once. plus i hardly get time to drive it these days to notice the difference. i think it's safe to say if there are any performance advantages they would only be minor...

my view is that hopefully the modifications can't hurt and if you add all the minor upgrades together then they can make a noticable difference...

Really enjoyed reading through this and your choice of mods are fantastic!!!!!!

Credit to you :beerchug:

Except wheels, everything is great, very informative thread! :)

more parts ordered...

just paid for these on fleabay...

advert said brand new with possible paint chips...

if they look like this i'll be happy...

i was going to buy used but glad i went for new as there are no salted roads in oz so they should stay in good condition for a while longer...

they include the pads too, now all i need is some 370mm discs...

i can remember way back when i had a car with wheels the size of 370mm discs...

Great job with everything you've done on the car mate. I quite like those alloys.

Those brakes make a difference. Great choice. And keeping it oem too.
i i love the rs brake upgrade. Should have been an option from the factory for s3...
