I have the option set to have the wing mirrors folded in when the car is locked.
Whilst I'm washing it, what is the easiest way to get the mirrors unfolded?

Unlock the car, put the key in the ignition to the first notch (the one before the engine starts) and that will make the mirrors come out. Take the key out but don't lock the car (because the mirrors will go back in then). Wash car :)

Start the car so the mirrors come out; stop the car; don't lock the car; put the keys out of range so when you are washing the car won't think the water is you trying to lock the car and thus keep your mirrors out.

Don't lock the car in the first place, that way the mirrors stay out. If you're going to wash it from a locked position then you'll have to start the car first, but you need to do this to set the wipers. Cant see how you can clean it properly if locked or with the wipers still on the screen.

1. Drive car out of garage.
2. Switch off car.
3. Pull wiper control stalk down to move wiper blades to wash position.
4. Get out of car.
5. DO NOT lock car (which will cause wipers to fold.)

Simples... squeek

ps. I only discovered this week that I could set wipers to wash position... doh!

Worth it if you wish to do a proper job, or you could take it to the locals for a dirty rag rub over.
That's no way to talk about the locals...

Your going to have to move the wipers any way so surely no problems?

In the scheme of things a couple of seconds opening the mirrors is insignificant to the (at least) two hours to give your car a clean?

Our local carwash is staffed with foreigners. I occasionally get my petrol there.

I much prefer to wash the car myself. I don't want the wax/sealant stripped off.

or you could deactivate the folding mirrors in the MMI before washing the car

If you press the unlock button 9 times in quick succession then pull the door handle and kick the front tyre at the same time the mirrors retract back open! Promise ;)

I haven't got folding mirror option in my A3 so I dont know for sure if its the same here, but isn't there a button near the wing mirror adjuster to open/close them? Thats how my previous cars had it.
