Hi there!

Iv`e recently bought an Sline Flat steering wheel with MF and I wonder what I need for it to work?

Originally I had the Square kind one with no MF (multifunction) I've heard that I need this 8P0 953 549 F part, but I have no Cruise control, I only need the MFSW to work, can I just use the VAGcom tool to reprogram the wheel to work, or do I need this part as well?

And if so, where is this fitted? Any1 got any picture to show or something? The wheel and the airbag fitted, so I got the airbag that has the wiring to the multifunction buttons, so thats all fitted, I just need to know if there is anything else I need to be sure :)

Thanks for reply`s!

Welcome to the site.

Yes you need a compatible module to be able to code the options, so you'll need to check your cars module currently fitted & if this doesn't have the ability to program, then its a new module & possibly slip ring, the latter is usually ok as most cars of your year have the correct slip ring, but prepare yourself it may need both.

If in the UK, we supply/fit these systems, PM for more info.

Don't mean to sound rude mate, but you sent me a PM asking the question and I gave you the answer!
One wonders why you bothered to PM me in the first place if you are asking the question again.

Thanks for replies!

First of of all, Sorry to you Dannykn9! Yes, I did ask you, but as you said, check out other threads in here (there are hundred you said) but I did not get my question all answered I'm afraid, some helped me a lot! so I thank you for that, but what I still need to know, is...

Is there possible to check out if I have the right module? asked the autoshop, and they said they needed some code from the wheel part number, to send to Germany`s main office so they could get a code sent to my autoshop and so on... it all sounded really odd....

Anyway, is there possible to check if the module is right, or if not. buy a new 1, and fit it in, code it and so on?

What is the location of this module? And, Do I need extra wiring? or will it all be there? My wheel is fitted in, the Slip ring and all fitted which my airbag plug. So that`s all done :)!

I just the buttons actions that does not work, neither does the light ofc.

I was hoping it was just turning it on which the VAGcom, tool :p

Get vagcom(VCDS) and scan for your module. Simple!

My set up sounds the same as yours, i have an 2007 A3 S-Line Quattro, which had a standard steering wheel no MF. I had a mate with vcds check mine out and unfortunately i dont have the correct steering control unit so need to get one, in my case i need to get a new control module, so it's 8P0 953 549 F part number, as you mentioned.

As far as i know the only way to determine the slip ring is to remove the steering wheel and find out. If you need a new slip ring then it would be 1K0 959 653 D Slip Ring.

After you fit all that you would still need someone with VCDS to code the module.

It's an expensive mod all right, i priced the control module today from TPS and it was £161+vat!...add that on to the cost of a FBMFSW and you're talking near £600 :O

edit: I found these 2 posts very helpful when trying to make sense of it all

Speaking of PM's :p sent you one earlier dude, wondering if you still had your module for sale?

I did this a few days ago on my 2005 Sportback, I originally had the AF or AH module fitted to mine and I had already fitted cruise although as everyone has stated in other threads it worked, but not as it should have.

I bought a MFSW off ebay that my airbag fitted into and then that was it, I needed to get it working.

To get it to work I needed

8P0 953 549 F Steering Module (£70 ebay)
8P0 971 589 AD Airbag Harness (£42 Audi Dealer)

I already had slipring D fitted.

You'll need to code a few things with VCDS and possibly reset the Steering Angle sensor and Steering Limit Stop if you get those faults and they dont dont go after a short drive as mine did.

Big thanks to ASH187 who gave me some much needed advice on how to get my power steering back after the retrofit.

Sorry fella, saw your PM, forgot to reply. No mate, no longer have it.
I shouldn't really be discussing it here as a few sponsors are a bit touchy!
