RS4 test drive

In return for selling lots of cars for my mate at Audi (and getting several of you guys in this forum great discounts on new cars in the process) my mate let me have their RS4 for an hour this morning (a few quid for each car would have been good but I settled for this /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

40 mile test drive is the p1ssing rain!
Wow, what a car /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif . Those of you that have them or have one on order are very lucky feckers! Mrs Booster came with me and also had ago. She loved it!

Love the gearbox and the brakes and the way the seats "hug" you when you press the Sports button. The acceleration is phenomenal! Exhaust note sounds beautuful!

Happened to be followed by an AMG CLK who was wanting to play! Had a bit of fun with him along the A50! The car is a real licence loser though. I was doing silly speeds without even realising!

Thought the whole car was an absolute peach! One thing I thought was a bit cheap though was the plastic at the bottom of the steering wheel /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The noise in the convertible will be incredible!

Need six numbers to come up on the lottery this weekend. Not just to buy the car but also fuel it: It averaged 15.9 mpg on our test drive /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I also saw round the back of the garage a VERY smashed up Q7. My mate had taken a guy out in it last Thursday and he drove straight over a central reservation taking out the whole front end, snapping the offside front alloy and axle!! They have no idea when the parts will be available to fix it and it could be off the road for three months! Bet he's popular!

You don't need a lottery win to enjoy that sort of performance.

£5K will get you a bike that will utterly humiliate an RS4. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yep, two wheels bad, four wheels good in my opinion!

biking is just an excuse to put on the power ranger getup and wave your **** at cars, most of bikers seem to spend their time in tourist areas normally frequented by pensioners, standing around comparing helmets. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Say a bikes safer well not always.
Cars can be just as dangerous.
Like this morning not far from me there was a bad car accident 2 fatalities.
And that as not been the only ones on that stretch of road happens all the time there.

I guess again as discussed elsewere from my blinkered point of view everyone I know who has or had a bike has had a pretty serious accident most involving hospital some involving death (mum's dad for example). I have had a close friend killed in a car accident but that's not the norm, I've also driven over probably 90,000 miles myself over the last 5 years and not had an accident or caused one myself so out of my personal experience I'd say cars are a lot safer.

I think the biggest problem for bikes is other road users and that's why I won't be getting one - even riding defensively there will still be that one person that doesn't see you and that could well be it.

What's that old adage ?

If you can afford to buy one,you can afford to run one.

Damn right!

Makes me laugh when you look at the info board for cars like the RS4 and they 'claim' you will get 30MPG (or something equally silly) on one of the listed driving cycles...

Porsche do the same trick...allegedly a 996 C4S will do 28.5 MPG average.

Yeah? Why do I get 18MPG average then?

I bet an RS4 does similar when actually driven.

Do prospective buyers of high performance cars actually consider this when buying thier £50K+ car?
No chance...

You buy it, drive it hard, and fill it up when it's empty...and try not to thing about how many times you've emptied £70+ worth into the tank.

The smile on your face should make the petrol cost irrelevant. If it doesn't, you've bought the wrong car.

The manufacturers figures never cease to amaze me, but then some of the figures people say they are achieving seem more than reasonable.
I never acheive more than 21 mpg and none of that is stuck in traffic, as Glen says when it is empty you go and fill it up /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
It makes me wonder if the price of fuel keeps rising if some of the more price sensitive individuals will be offloading their SUV's and the like

Peoples reasons for buying performance cars never cease to amaze me.

Bloke across the road has a BMW330 coupe thing.

He tells me he gets close to 30mpg if he takes it easy.

Why buy a performance car and take it easy ?

Why not buy a normal car and thrash the bejesus out of it instead ?

I was held up this morning,by a bloke in an M3,so I'm on an anti-performance car trip today,sorry. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

More than half the gimps that buy them simply do not,or cannot, use the performance.

Last time I came across an NSX,I overtook him on the outside of a streaming wet bend (I could see round it,of course).

Seriously, what kind of utter *** buys an NSX then lets someone in a diesel A4 take the mick ?

It's not what you drive,it's how you drive it.

Maybe Bowfer the M3 and NSX don't have anything to prove, and in the case of the NSX maybe he was driving safely for the conditions / car!

That said the numptie in a 530 last night doing 30 all the way along a NSL road on his ****** phone got a bit of a surprise when I over took him coming upto and going around a ****** sharp bend in the /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/swear.gif rain - **** of the highest order that bloke.

[/ QUOTE ]

Nah,I say Horlicks to that.

You say nothing to prove,I say they're incapable,or downright scared.

If a humble diesel A4 can corner at a given speed in the wet,I'm bleeding sure an NSX could too.

Honestly,I reckon the vast majority of performance car owners simply want the 'pose factor' and are utterly utterly clueless about their cars capabilities.

My MD for example. He's had some wicked motors, but simply doesn't have a clue.He wants people to think he's fast.In reality,he only ever drives on main roads and would fill his pants if he were to sit next to me,in my diesel, over a country road.

I'm not lying when I tell you that he could be in a Ferrari and I could be in my A3,and on all but the straightest roads I'd leave him behind. He simply hasn't a clue about grip, cornering, braking or anything. He just buys them coz he can,and they look good pulling into the golf club.

I'm sure it doesn't apply to them all though.
I'm sure there are blokes out there that will thrash their flash motors to within an inch of their life, and all power to them.I'll still try and keep up,and maybe have a laugh with them when we both pull into the pub.
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bravo.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

Better made point that time Bowfer and I completely agree, it's a shame most of the really nice cars are driven by total planks!

On the other hand I think there are many people that own these cars and do drive them properly so it's probably 50 / 50, the thing about the NSX maybe he just got the car, maybe his tyres didn't like water... you just never know what the other drivers are thinking that's the problem.

Never underestimate one of the biggest factors affecting a car's performance - the driver.

Absolutely anyone can bury their right foot into the bulkhead, but putting it all together with effective steering, braking and general car control can wipe out the performance advantage of other cars.

I'm not condoning street racing here; but it does sometimes validate those times when you're still hanging on to the back of a 911 in your TDI and you thought the other guy was really trying! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I was following a 996 c4s in the rain about 18 months ago and the driver was going round the corners so slow, then when he got the car straight on the road he was burying the throttle up to triple figures, obviously showed the drivers lack of confidence in the car(maybe he did not own it)

These type of people are annoying, whether it be in a car or on a bike.

Maybe he's just considerate.

Why is it that anyone that owns a supercar has to drive it like they stole it to make themsleves worthy of ownership. There's a time and a place.
So what if they want to cruise and pose, I ****** would if i'd just spunked £100k on a car. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

I'm not interested in posing.
I laugh,or shake my head,at people who drive their supercars,or bikes, down the town's 'poser street' on a Saturday afternoon.

So on the basis of your argument, you drive everywhere with your foot buried through the shag pile? Every car that is on the road has to be driven at max chat all the time?

Given the option of posing down a busy street,or giving it a pasting around quiet country roads,I'll take the latter.

Although I have been spotted on a flypast of Union St of occasion...I'd rather be out learning how to get the best out of a car I'd just spent a fortune on buying soley because it's made for driving.

I know of one blue 993 C4 owner who is likely to be spotted on said road 2 or 3 times per day...posing. But at the chance of a decent run into the Highlands to better learn his car...he is sadly missing!

Poor show...
