Had a look through the search bar but nothing jumping out at me..

basically need a new clutch prior to remapping And can't afford 850£ right now...

my my dads really good with cars and does everything himself and he thinks he can do it but I'm wondering if anyone else has tried this...?

i have a 2007 a4 b7 2.0tdi - this will be done on axel stands on my drive :)

also so any clutch kits people recommend? I'm only going to stage 1.

In terms of upgrades it all depends which way you want to go and whether your car's five/six speed. Personally have a 5 speed b6 which I put a SRE clutch on although that's probably not the route for you as it cost around £850 without the labour haha. If your just after a basic remap I'd go for that first and then see how long the clutch holds. Should be ok just replacing with another basic clutch that has a DMF, wouldn't go SMF if it's five speed (probably wouldn't put it on six either) down to stories of people destroying more than just the clutch, I mean for some people they work great it's just people I've known to create unfeasible repairs for themselves.

Thanks for your reply. I have a six speed box.

I have been on the phone to r tech and due to the high miles on the original church they strongly advised getting the clutch done first.

I think I'll just put an OEM clutch in but was wondering if anyone had tried this themselves and what problems I could encounter...?

Provided it's a quality branded clutch kit, I would have thought a standard clutch kit would suffice running stage one.

Good Luck,
A

It's not too bad to do, I did a quattro b6 which was a touch fiddley..! and the box was very heavy!! just take your time and make sure all the bolts have been removed..... A copy of elsawin from that flea bay place is a worthy purchase for information and locations of things. I would keep with oem dmf setup for stage 1 which should be fine, as long as you aren't heavy on clutches.

If I could afford it, I would change the DMF everytime.....unless your hobby was Clutch kit removals! Is it worth taking the risk of having to do it all over again?

I think he means replace it but keep it OEM.

Okay. I'll let you all know how it goes. Thanks

Had a word with the old man and we are going to give it a go in September/October as it seems okay ATM
