'98-'99 B5 mat fixings........

I've read somewhere that the '98-'99 A4 had a one-year-only method of fxing the over-mats down to the cabin carpet......
As well as the usual snap-ring fixings on the over-mats there seems to be a small screw (missing from my mats) that secures the over-mats into the plastic studs that are incorporated into the cabin carpet......
Can't find any details of these fixings on ETOS/ETKA, got blank looks when asked at my local Audi stealer who are normally very good ......
Anyone know the part number for the securing screw?
I have tried using very small self-tappers cut-down to size, but they keep coming loose.....

Same problem here on my '97. It has the same fastening, a plastic screw which you give a quarter-turn to hold the mat down.

I have one screw missing so have looked for a part number on the others - there isn't one (not surprising as there's no where to put it!).

I can't find a part number for the mats either; ETOS says 'see accessories catalogue'.

Not much help I'm afraid, sorry but why not take a mat into your dealer to show precisely what you want? They should the be able to find it in the accessory catalogue.
 
Thanks for the replies and for the info docurley; I'd seen that part number on the AudiWorld tech forums and tried with the local Audi stealer a few months ago....to no avail.
Happened to go to the local VW dealer this afternoon (owned by same company as local Audi Centre) and the parts chap there (who had worked for a few years in the Audi parts dept before his move to the VW site) suggested I go back to the Audi Centre and ask them to look up that part number in the accessories catalogue under 'carpet fixings' in 'e-pack' .
He remembered there being a fixings kit available for a few quid-but added that there was always the danger of it having been made obsolete /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif.
Anyway, went back up the road to Audi-where they double-checked the part number, and again told it was no longer a valid part number...

Its replacement fixing set for the screw type mat fixings. It'll have the screw caps that you need to fix your mats back on.

It's doesn't come under ATP on ETKA as its an Accessory part /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Went to local Audi Centre, they had the kits in stock, price was £3.23 + vat.
Kit is an accessory made by Votex and contains enough bits to hold down the n/s and o/s footwell mats.
My mats are now quite secure...

Now all I have to do is find some correct mats for my 2000 Avant with the later fixing!

No probs /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif, out of interest what are the later mat fixings like?
I only ask as I often see later over-mats for sale on Ebay but not often earlier ones......

Here's the instruction leaflet that came with the mat fixings kit ( which I presume is the earlier type?), the only difference between these and the items factory installed in my A4 is the bottom 'anchor' piece.
In the kit these install by means of biting into the cabin carpet when turned with the 11mm bit , the ones already installed in the cabin carpet are a push-fit over 2 steel spikes....

Yup, they're the ones on my '97 Saloon.

My '00 Avant has two 'pegs' sticking up from the floor for each front mat, more or less in the same place as the earlier fixings. I imagine the later mats have holes in them which fit over the 'pegs' which are plastic, about the diameter of your little finger (well mine!) and stick up roughly 15mm.

Cheers, the later fixings sound very much like the way the mats were fixed down in my old '94 80 TDi, and those mats never moved....
Perhaps Audi went back to a tried and trusted design, can't say I'm too impressed with the way my A4 mats are held down...just too fiddly!
