2.0T Oil issue engine repair cost

It's such an awkward position for you. Chances are it will be fine, but you will always have it in the back of your mind it's gonna go wrong. That's why I had to get rid of ours.

But then you never know what you are buying next. Cars.....so annoying, but so fun lol.

So the car has accumulated 1600 miles and I've had to top up just under a litre....this sounding okay or should I start talking to audi while my warranty is still here???

1600 will pass there tests

When you realise you are topping the engine up with oil as much as you are with petrol, then you know you've got a problem. 1 litre every 1200 miles is normal.

Just spoke to Audi customer service department and the state that 1 litre every 12oo miles is well within spec. Hmm. I have logged my isage with them and have it down as a concern should anything untoward happen in the future.

Yeah, that's what the manual states

My car has got its mojo back! After completing almost 2000 miles this week, even fully laden, it pulled well in 6th gear on the motorway and effortlessly overtook in 4th gear on the highland country roads.

All I need to do now is get the dent repaired on the side of the car, scratch removed on the front wing, repair the wing mirror and replace the indicator strip, repair the boot 12v plug, refurbish the alloys...then it will be half decent car again!!

Anybody would think I don't look after it, but it's been hit 4 times whilst parked and the wing mirror is on its 6th repair!

Good for you.
I'm taking mine in next week to Huddersfield audi to see if they are as nice as folk say, if not then I'd better get my hard hat on.

Good luck.

Audi UK keep phoning me to see if I'm happy with the repair. Too little too late in my opinion.

I've just discovered that there is an absolute hate campaign going on in USA by Audi owners against Audi brand or what they see as being the big boss - VW, mainly due to these 2.0TFSI engines, though aided by some bad VW experiences. Sounds like even the folk with the worst experiences in UK have not been told directly to "F" off and don't come back by their dealers! Though with some USA forum posters advising not to add oil when the first warning is given, you have to wonder if the dealers in USA are right to tell some of these folk to "F" off. In USA maybe it is a case of good product, duff service support and duffer owners, they seem to have sussed out the first two bits, but have not looked in the mirror.

It sounds like the repair has gone pretty well for you. Mine is going in tomorrow to be done. What has the oil consumption been like since the repair? I understand that it stays relatively high initially and then backs off to a reasonable rate.

Normally I monitor my mileage on a long run just out of interest, but I never this time. I would say that by about 1000-1200 miles the car had used about 3/4 litre of oil, which I topped up. I'll keep an eye on it now and see how I get on.

A quick update for those who care;

I picked up my car last Friday. It instantly became a different car to drive, fuel economy is slightly up and the throttle feels a lot more responsive. The MMI oil indicator was not showing a reading for the first few miles as per design. When I did check it after about 60 miles it was reading about 1/3. I returned to Audi today who said that the car will use more oil to begin with, 0.65L over 60miles (chuckle)! They checked the car over and gave me a top up. I'm not convinced it was full to begin with. I had the opportunity to speak to the mechanic who did the repair; he told me that he is pretty much doing this full time at the moment. How Audi UK are not admitting fault is quite amazing. Anyway, I'll do another 1000miles and report back.

Well I finally got time to take mine to audi Huddersfield and tbh all looks promising (their acting genuinely remorseful and helpful, even head technician admitted it's a common issue), it's booked in on 8th sept due to me needing a replacement car for its consumption test and they will keep the car and do the mileage too (621 miles is the requirement for test) as it's at an alarming rate of 150-200miles so won't even make the 621 so should fail straightaway and miss test 2 and straight to rebuild.

Excellent news. Mines the same, it's just everything else is falling apart now! The car is going in for an MOT this month, so hopefully I'll get them sorted then.

Get it done as soon as... Like jwash42, you'll notice the difference straight away and wonder how Audi could get it so wrong!

Well it's been with them since Monday.
But they seem to have changed the test procedure.
1st they wanted todo the updates which is 2 hours labour and then fit breather valve/seal.
They charge £120 ph labour but will do it at half the cost and the woman forgot to tell me that it needed the breather valve so that part is foc.
And in the meantime they are doing the mileage for me for the consumption test so will hear from them soon on the next stage.
So far it's going ok (as I knew I'd have to pay for the tests) but it's the next step I'm getting prepaired for.
So fingers crossed they look after me as I've told them I'll need a reputable dealer to service and maintain my car in the future depending on the outcome.
Will update later.

Update: well it failed test and oil light came on at 200 miles.

Just had a call from audi Huddersfield and they have agreed an outcome.

Audi uk are going to pay 70% and audi Huddersfield are going to cover the remaining 30% as a good will gesture.
So all in all I pay £0 for a full engine rebuild.

Hopefully car should be ready end of next week.

when its done can you post the invoice up here ?

id like to know what they have replaced

Will do, she said something about £9k all in inc consumption test and everything. I just can't wait to give this A1 back!

I might be completely wrong here but I'm guessing that if all the work is being done FOC, that Bustamoves will not get any paperwork, I'm not saying that as an owner you have a right to know what has been done, but in my experience car places generally take a different view, ie "it cost you nothing so you don't need to know what we have done". The best you can expect is a brief verbal round up of what has been done.

This didn't work last time, but hopefully it's clearer this time.

I hope so, as I'll be demanding it as I'll need it for documented service history.

They are also doing a major service (they are going to put new oil in anyway) and a free mini service for next time all in for £299. :)

I must admit Ashleigh at hudds audi is looking after me very well, so she's getting a bottle of wine and a box of quality street for all the staff to show my appreciation.

Well quick update-
I've just got car back and instead they have replaced the engine (presumably block) with a brand new one :)
However she couldn't give me an invoice as I never paid for anything and was classed as warranty work. I've received a paper/letter stating it's had a new engine with a new engine number on which I'll have to inform dvla for a replacement v5.

She didn't charge me for the service I asked for as most of it was done during repair apart from air filter, pollen filter and inspection so didn't think I should spend my money for nothing :), She just said next service is due in 19k miles? (I want a uprated filter anyway so it can breath better ready for a remap I have planned later)

She also stated there is NO running in to do which I found strange (but probably due to these modern engines I guess?) were any of you advised of running it in?
I'm still taking it easy for the first 1k miles just out of habit.

All in all, I can't grumble and I'm very happy how they have dealt with me and I feel lost in the spacious cabin compared to the A1 they gave me.

I asked whether I needed to run my car in and had the same reply. We drove to Scotland the following weekend, so I took it easy anyway.

Yeah strange they say it dosent need running it, they road test it a few times anyway so I'm wondering if that's fine then they see it as fit, I'm still doing a easy 1k miles, then look into a remap (any preferences who to use?) I've bought a piper corss panel filter and some genuine exhaust trims as they were full of crap (£20 on ebay, bargain rrp £70)

...then look into a remap (any preferences who to use?)

Had Shark Performance stage 1 remap on my B7. Loved it! Also dealer was local to me which gave me confidence that I had backup if there were any issues which there weren't.

Wow! Great service from a main dealer? I'm impressed! Congratulations on a new engine.

I'm tempted with awesome gti as they do the APR map which I'm presuming the ecu dosent need to come out?

Yeah I'm impressed too with a nice shiney block, was tempted to take a photo of it :)
I think FDSH and armed with knowledge and wasn't born yesterday kind of swayed it to go to the manager with the case before I got the go ahead as I was expecting to pay for stage 1-2 tests which also got honoured.
Think total bill was over £10k she was saying.

I think most of the big players are remapping without ECU removal now. Be aware Audi are now proactively checking for remaps so that would affect the warranty you have on your shiny new bits! Google Audi TD1 to see what I mean.

Yeah, you would think having an oil issue was bad enough, but last year I had to pay £1,200 to have the timing chain and fly wheel replaced when it failed as I was sitting at the lights. My neighbour on the other hand was facing a £9,000 bill from Skoda when his Octavia RSV engine screwed up on the motorway due to the same problem. He handed the keys to the garage and took what ever cash was remaining for the value of the car.

I couldn't give a toss about the engine once it's run in and problem free as it's had the 'revised' block fitted which should of been done ages ago when they knew there was a problem (design fault).
Normally I would got it sorted myself as I have built my subaru race car nemerous times so I'm not scared of taking it on, but the fact it was a widely common issue I took it up with audi to fight.
The tfsi engine are actually really good engines and have a lot of good reviews.
S3, golf gti, golf r, cupra k1 and so on.

That's just pure bad luck, I see an assembly fault somewhere there.but I take it you got a good will towards funds.
Tbh any second hand car without warranty is a risk you should be prepaired for if the inevitable happens.

Fitted my panel filter today and nice new shiney exhaust trims, now to sort a couple of stone chips to bonnet etc, get wheels refurb end in 8ae and tint the rear windows and leave it.

I actually starting to care about it now it's fixed, before I didn't give a dam as the oil consumption put a downer on things.

That's just it. I bought both card from Audi, the first when it was 8 months old and this one when it was 3 months old. Both cars started swallowing money once the warranty ran out.

It's hard to swallow spending on average just under £1,000 a year when I paid almost£30,000 (including the finance) on the car itself! To put it into perspective, I spend on average £200 a year to maintain my convertible which is 18 years old.

Sorry to jump in to this 10 years to late, but are the 2.0 petrol problems associate with any particular build year or is this a problem with the engines in brand new cars for 2014 aswell
