Hi, Had the abs and esp light pop up on the way home from work this evening and after scanning it when I got in, I've had a bit of a search about but didn't find much info, the fault codes I got are.

Address 03: ABS Brakes Labels: 1C0-907-37x-ESP-A.lbl
Part No: 1C0 907 379 F

VCID: 2D5B176DB70A1F1

1 Fault Found:
00538 - Reference Voltage
012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit - Intermittent

and also got one for the radio which I've not had before, but would of thought it's unrelated?

Address 56: Radio Labels: 8D0-035-1xx-56.lbl
Part No: 8L0 035 186 A
Component: Radio D05
Coding: 00013
Shop #: WSC 06435
VCID: 2C5D1A69DC10169

1 Fault Found:
00856 - Radio Antenna
36-10 - Open Circuit - Intermittent

Ive pulled the fuses on top of the battery and checked and cleaned them, also removed the battery and removed the earth connectors underneath and have cleaned them, although they were in good nick anyway.

Just wondering if anyone has had this fault before and what did they do to resolve it, or anyone suggest where I should start looking. The cars a 2001 A3 Quattro.

Thanks
rupe.

Yes had exactly the same thing on our old 1.8tq A3, sold the car in the end as it drove me mad. I went through and cleaned every earth contact i could find in the engine bay even did this Waks Wide Web oddly enough it went away for months and then came back, i think in the end it's the brain on the abs module that needs fixing.

Thanks for the reply, I was hoping nobody would say it was the abs unit :( I have cleared the code for now so will see if it happens again and investigate some more after that.

The brain can be removed from the pump and sent off for repair i used ecu testing on old a6 i had did a good job, the problem is on the A3 is that i don't think you have enough room to take the brain off without removing the abs complete, you then end up having to bleed the pump using VCDS when you refit to get the air out and then bleed all the brakes. If you buy a used unit then it's very much part no specific so match up exactly what you have now and it should fit ok if you go down that road.

I think what's happening is that inside the unit there are some very fine wires like less than a hairs width that sit in a jelly like substance they eventually break up causing your comms problem and the light, with our old car it was always worse when it was cold out.

I actually tried to repair my old a6 module and after looking inside decided it was not solderable as per the jelly situation.

Sorry mate but it is a common problem over a lot cars fitted with Bosch abs systems

This ones an ate pump I think which from what I can find also suffer problems like the bosch and from what I've read you can't separate the electronic part on this type anyway? so would be the whole thing out like you say.

1J0 614 517F is the part number.

Thanks :)

Thanks :) I'm guessing swapping the pump If it comes to that, might need coding too?
