Hey All,
New joiner here !
I've always had admiration for VAG cars and last September, I bought myself a Golf Mk6 GTI, which was my second car and a CONSIDERABLE upgrade on my 1.25 Ford Fiesta! The GTI is a great car, but I found myself wanting more...
Originally, I was looking at the 8P S3. My best mate has it in white and driving it was a dream for me, especially with Quattro. 211 ponies just didn't cut it for me and FWD is a nightmare in the wet - no matter how good the tyres!!! I was hoping to find a '12 plate with bucket seats and all the rest of the toys but something told me to look at the 8V in greater detail, even though I didn't hold it in high regard from its press release (in terms of styling).
One of my other mates has just bought the 8V S3 and kept mentioning how much of a weapon it was. Unfortunately, he was never up in Aberdeen the same time as I was not offshore until the other week. Luckily, we caught each other and my god... I fell in love! The fact that his is dropped by 25mm and blacked out kinda stole the show for me. After I took it for a wee spin, I was sold.
Now, I have always maintained that I will buy manual cars until my mid-twenties to early-thirties. Part of this is due to the enjoyment I get out of those cheeky downshifts and revving the tits off it; especially with my de-silenced exhaust. My dad has the Rocco R and he has always raved about the DSG setup, while I always dismissed it as an "old man's" option (not that you're too old, Dad).
As mentioned previously, my mate's S3 was winning me over with each passing second... and this is with the S-tronic option! ****** hell does it fly! There was something so satisfying about shifting with the paddles and I personally found I could direct more mental focus to the road as you don't have to worry about the clutch and gearing. Don't even get me started on launch control... he demonstrated just how lethal it was as we pulled up to a set of lights in both cars.
So after my weekend experience in the new S3, I have now decided to opt for the 8V, no doubt about it. And yes, I will be going S-tronic!!!
I have already gone ahead and spec'd it how I desire.
I kinda got a little bit carried away with the options: there are a few I am dubious on, but I'm hoping you guys can provide your input:
8V S3
Transmission: S-tronic - no brainer here after my experience with it. It'll allow for a more relaxed drive too, not that I ever drive relaxed...
Paint: Glacier White - white cars are slowly going out of fashion and a black roof, RS grill and black rims with green calipers will set it aside from most on the road in my view
Interior: all-black finish + super sport seats (are buckets a retail only option???)
Chosen Equipment:
Adaptive headlights w/ Xenon Plus - can't justify the LEDs unless they really are in a world of their own? Not keen on the merged light strip for daylight on the Xenons, but that's something I have to live with
Advanced key - now, I'm opting for this purely to make life that little bit easier. I've seen divided opinions on this though, so what is the general consensus?
Audi Parking Plus - better to be safe than sorry in my eyes!
Bang & Olufsen - it's just rude not to, right? And THAT LED bar <3
Black Styling package - looks more sophisticated IMO
Door mirrors (electrically folding, etc) - don't want it being pinged by some inconsiderate **** in car parks
Extended mono. pur interior - not too sure what this is; I'm assuming it's the finish on some interior parts?
3D black inlays - don't like the silver
Interior lighting - looks the tits
Light and rain sensor package - was undecided on this to begin with, is it really worth it?
Reversing camera - just to be EXTRA safe, hahaha
Tech package - now, what the hell do I actually get here? Bigger screen, touch controls, and an enhanced phone system?
18" 10-spoke wheels - will paint them black of course and I'm not keen on "busy" alloy designs
How much discount could I realistically get on all that? As the retail price is circa 38k .
I do apologise for the overly long post and thanks if you actually took the time to read all that nonsense!
Cheers,
Connor.
