Decided to go down the tuning box route for now as I am the world's most impatient man. That along with the TD1 warranty flags and the tuners ''it is a couple of weeks away" I decided to give one a bash.

To to cut a long story short...

0-60mph = 3.77
0-100mph = 8.92

For comparison, the benchmark set by revo last week with their Stage 1 remap, intake and sticky rubber ...

This was run this morning with a 10c ambient temp on a flat road (Gradient less than 1%)

Big thumbs up to Andrew at DTUK who shipped the box out to me within 24hrs and answered all my questions.

Car drives great, stock like, smooth but with a lot more punch.

Good god that's quick.

Is that with just a tuning box, i.e. stock exhaust, IC etc?

No, no, no, no .. don't post stuff like this here .. I want to be completely happy with my 'standard' S3 and not remap it like every other turbo car I've owned ..

****** not even 100 miles on the clock and there's already an option to consider ..

Good effort though fella.

Yes, car completely standard, no other modifications.

Run on Tesco 99 Momentum at 4am this morning with a 10c ambient temp.

Yes, 3 door S-tronic, 3 months old, 4k very hard miles, about 35-40 launches on the gearbox so far.

**** that is quick and equally impressive if the car is running great.
I formed the opinion (maybe incorrectly) you were quite sceptical about that tuning box but given those results wow, me like others will now be thinking there is no better way for £500 to make a quick car quicker :keule:

My only concern running additional boost is longevity of the turbo...........

I have the tuning box on mine too, definitely pulls harder than standard. How do you have the jumpers set up on the box??

Scott as per FB, Leo is running a tweaked file so it mayn't relate to the files on your box were currently working on a couple of new files with our S1/S3 which will form basis of a software update for the boxes :)

Anyone with tuning box had a scan at dealer yet to see if they have detected the logs have higher reading and thus a TD1 flag?

Great numbers for DTUK!, please keep on posting your daily driving fuel consumptions.
When remapping a stage on ECU they always offer fuel consumption saving, hard to measure when you have a heavy foot.

This is the million dollar question. Someone said before that any alteration will be detectable by Audi but others have said they have had DTUK tuned cars in and scanned and nothing showed up.

Which is it?

Our previous S3 Sportback went back against the Saloon and i asked the dealer to check this for both their and my peace of mind, and nothing was recorded anywhere. Nothing flagged up and the car was taken as a p\x and sold as an approved used car.

Was that a current generation Sportback to Saloon swap? I was under the impression that the latest ECU's monitored other parameters and would detect a tuning box and flip the TD1 flag as a result.

If it's true for the S3 what about the S5... that would be tempting. :)

a brand new S3 Sportback that we had on fleet for 6 weeks before we took delivery of the Saloon.

Its the same for the S5, infact the S5 uses a slightly different box to the S3 and works back at £395.95 with £160 member discount but You'd need to contact us direct on 01207 299538 as the web site would charge you £475.95 with the usual £80 discount we offer members.

There is a guy on A5oc who had his S5 Cabbie dyno'd a while go and it pulled 424bhp using our kit.

Couple of Questions......

Do we need to phone to order and not via the web site?
So how much are these to us forum members?
Where do you locate/position the box in the engin bay?
How simple is the install?
How easy is it to remove (I am in Ireland and would need to remove before car servicing)?

I was very sceptical yes, however, knowing that the stock ECU is still in charge of all the protection measures, it was enough to convince me to buy one. What's the alternative? No remap solutions and even when one is released, it will most probably leave a warranty flag. This blackmarks the car on the central Audi system, bye bye warranty. Even going in for a routine service will trigger it as soon as it's hooked upto diagnostics. The tuning box therefore has this massive advantage. If anything does go wrong, not long to remove and in for warranty work. I can confirm that nothing is seen in VCDS, everything reads stock.

The big question was, how do they compare against proper remaps? I was sceptical and didn't think they would be any good if I'm being honest, it goes against everything I have learned over the years as a petrolhead but hey, firm believer in you can't knock it until you've tried it and the results speak for themselves.

Standard - 0-60 = 4.25, 0-100 = 10.45
Tuning Box - 0-60 = 3.77, 0-100 = 8.92

That is remap gains proved by the figures revo provided with their Golf R.

I do have to say though, when I add the hardware, I'll probably need to opt for a Stage 2 remap as the tuning box does not get rid of the 155 limiter, not will it delete the CEL light when I remove the cats.

Anyway, if there are people sitting on the fence, buy one. The boxes are transferrable to other S3 cars unlike remaps so when a remap does come out and you swap over, it will be easy enough to recoup some of the cost by selling the box on. (I'm sure Andrew doesn't mind me stating this as that is exactly what he said to me)

I will only move over if they bypass TD1 and leave no trace though. ****** being black marked on the central system. Not just for warranty work but for finance buy out reasons too.

Illingworth, PM Andrew for further details to purchase. He will probably deal with you over the phone.

Install is 30-45mins. You do need to jack the car up and remove the under tray to get at the bottom boost sensor. Don't let that put you off though as it really is very simple to do, 10 or so torx screws and the under tray comes off, boost sensor is easily accessible from underneath. The rest up the top is very easy also, there is a step by step guide and Andrew is very helpful. The good thing about the kit as the box sits up by the battery and is removeable I literally ten seconds. You can fit the blanking plug to the lead so it reverts back to proper stock (leaving the leads in place) or removeable completely in 30-45mins by removing the kit.

Hi Leo, for comparison what were your acceleration times when your car was standard?

I asked Leo a question and he answered it. I thanked him :)

i blame tapatalk as i hadn't seen the previous posts ... doh :)

on a separate note i may drop you an email regarding an intake for our own S3 Saloon, as they look rather tasty

Evan, I think I'm going to buy one aswell. Looks by far the best intake out there by a country mile 👍

Good results their to be fair, this car will be ridiculously capable with hardware added, shame my car through a paddy with the box fitted but oh well onwards and upwards.

Evan stage 2 with tbe and intake 400hp yeah? Whats fuelling like on this car, the hpfp looks massive to begin with? How are APR doing with the td1 get around is it possible ive herd one or two may have cracked it?

The DTUK box sounds beyyer and better with every thread! I'm going to buy one with out a doubt as soon as there are 1000 miles on the clock! And when I have the car! Haha

I've just been reading the PR for APRs Gen 3 EA888 remap for the Mk7 GTI. Main headline is that power has gone from 235bhp to 316bhp with just a Stage 1 remap...

This is ****ing crazy, an even better percentage increase than the previous generation EA113 K04 2.0TFSI!

This bodes really well for us S3 guys as our engines will have a lot more headroom than the GTI's.

Great results Leo!

With regards to the DTUK box and setting you have, I presume you requested a more agressive map than what DTUK currently offer for the S3?

A question for ABYSS (DTUK), what is the difference between the standard map on offer to the public and the map Leo has? Will Leo's map be the new offering for S3's going forward?

Leo's first set of figures were with the standard German file, the tweaked map hs is running involves a very minor change.

The boxes we have sold this week have had this tweaked file included.

Anyone who has bought a box in the past can send it back to us and we can reflash it to include the "Leo 3.7" file :)

Shame they can't be user upgradable as sending back seems a bit of a faff....

it's even a pain when remaps vendors upgrade their code and you go to your local remap dealer and they charge for an hours labour even though the upgrade takes 10 mins via diag's port..

Maybe I will wait till they have "perfected the code" or are not actively upgrading the code any more so I know I have the latest :icon_thumright:

Well we don't charge for upgrades so the only cost to you would be £7 special delivery as we cover the return costs.

Do you have an idea of how long to reprogram and return?

Nice this is F430 territory here ... Could we get a video ? :superman:

Andrew, could I send the S3 box I bought couple of months ago to you ? How better is this map ?

Thanks
