Hi can someone help me remove my RNS-E without the keys as it seems the clips may have broke. I have tried 4 different pairs of keys and still cant get them to click in. I have been told I can remove the unit by pushing from the back. Has anyone got a guide to show how I can remove the glove box to access the back of the unit?

The keys don't really 'click' in, just push until they feel right, then press outwards on the top pair and pull the unit out slightly. Then pull the bottom ones the same way and it should move. It's a case of teasing it out as it is quite a tight fit.

If you need to push it out, lever the air-con panel out and pull from there, but you shouldn't have to.

The clips won't be broken, they are very tough!

They dont click and I have tried hard but they still dont catch.

Is the Aircon unit straight forward to take out?

I may have the cheap keys but I have also tried with other keys and I still cant get it to come out. Is there any other way to remove the unit without using keys?

Mine's been stuck for the past 12 months with 3 keys in place and the fourth not 'clicking' at all ... not sure what to do next. Both AMD and Tuningwerkes had a look but suggested I head to a specialist audio outfit ...

Feel for you mate. My keys are not stuck, just need to get to the back of the unit as my aux cable has come loose.

I have the cheap ones and the best thing to do is push them until they won't go any further. Then I pulled from the insides of the screen area (obviously not the screen it's self and it pops right out. I'm guessing your trying to pull with the keys? I couldn't pull mine out with the keys as the keys would just pop out.

Just get your fingers on both sides and pull gently towards you.

Hope that helps.

The right way is to insert the key flat side outwards, pointing outwards slightly so that the key pushes the catch inwards.

Not pushing to key in until it clicks may give more leverage.

Pressing the unit sides into the dash will also relieve some of the pressure on the catch as you insert the key.

Here's video to demonstrate VAG head unit key release demo how to and how not - YouTube

If your keys have clicked into place then to remove them try.1. apply sideways inward pressure to the key finger hole and sideways outward pressure to the head unit.2. with the head unit outward sideways pressure still held move the key gently outwards sideways then it may pull out easily.Try inserting the keys again as per my video without clicking into place as this may lever the catch a mm further, which may be enough.

it would probably be easier just to remove the unit, remove the keys then refit the unit

They look like the keys I bought from Halfords, never worked and bent out of shape really easily, I had the same issue with the navigon radio I bought before my RNSe, I took it to a few garages and places that specialised in audio installations and the conclusion was it couldn't be taken out.
I have a thread on it somewhere but I had to drill through the unit and kinda crush it in on itself to take it out, that was because the brackets broke so couldn't get the keys in, It was impossible for me to get to the behind of it even after taking the glove box out and everything under the steering wheel I still couldn't get to where the clips are.
