I tried to see if I could hit the rev limiter earlier on my 1.6 FSI. On previous cars I've had (except in the very distant past) you could rev to somewhere near the red line - which is 6500 rpm on this, and then get a gradual tailing off towards the red line.

I tried (with a properly warmed up engine) today to get it to rev in 2nd gear - it reaches (slowly and reluctantly) just over 5000, them starts to die back and the Engine Management Light flashes - is this normal for the FSI? It feels as if something's wrong to me.

BTW - it has been scanned for codes recently and no faults were found.

Is that sitting still or moving? Mine will only rev to a certain amount (way below redline) when sat at the lights for example. Not sure about the EML flashing though!

Moving in 2nd gear, foot to the boards.

lol I think I only ever revved mine to its limit (2.0T) twice in the years I have owned it, and even then momentarily ... don't wanna do it again. Dunno if I reached the limiter but it deffo "ran out of puff" somewhere up there.

There is usually a limiter that kicks in once you go past the red line...so I've heard! As for the engine light flashing that's new to me.

I've had a look at a couple of youtube vids of people doing 0-62 on their 1.6FSIs, and they are definitely revving all the way round the dial (well most of it) without issues - there is deffo something wrong with mine.

Might not be an issue as I've seen a 2.0 FSI SE (non-turbo) with a brill spec locally that I'm going to ring up about tomorrow :)

In case it helps anyone in future, another Coil Pack was failing. Replaced them all and put in new plugs while I was at it.

When I had mine I would go all the way to the redline, think I hit the limiter once and the power cut so changed into third and continued like normal. The power died of about 5600 so I only redlined for the noise.....

don't think the eml should flash, mine goes to 7,100 and the accelerator pedal just goes spongey

No - it's stopped doing that (EML) now I've replaced all the coil packs.
