Little surprises?

I think you'll find that the majority of people don't actually want the Headlamp washers to activate at all, hence setting a high number of windscreen washes before it activates the headlamp washes.

Yup, lol. Pain in the ****, especially if you've just washed the car. Would deactivate them entirely if it was legal!

Agreed, to be fair Xenons on my 8P only get cleaned when I wash the car, not topics the jets

i like the way that when you stop at the lights, and you're using your wipers, they stop. I also like when you depress the clutch from neutral, the revs give a small blip to stop you stalling....i like the way the music volume fades in and out, rather than coming on full blast...also the MP3 and CD auto pause when you turn the volume right down :)

I hadn't noticed that rev blip, or the wipers stopping when the car stops. Interesting info here!

I have paid attention today and the revs don't seem to change when I press the clutch in neutral. When exactly do you notice that? I have a 1.4 TFSI CoD with manual gear.

At the bottom of the seat belts there is a plastic slider you can set to your required height. Stops the buckle falling all the way down and rattling, also makes it easier to get to

How on earth did I never notice this... thanks!

This is great! I've been for weeks struggling with the buckle, which currently falls almost to the floor. I don't have the car right now, but I'll try this. I hope that plastic slider is not a S3-only thing (I have an A3)

I was the same, it was the only thing about the car that annoyed me. Thought there must be something there.

Definitely got em on my A3, little bits of genius.

Every audi I have owned in the last 13 years had that sliding arrestor on the seat belts and also the wiper thing people are commenting on.

When listening to music/podcasts on your phone, if you stop the car and engine, and open the door, the music stops.

However, if you keep your foot on the brake, the music continues to play.

Had the car (A4 1.4TFSI COD SB SE) a year and only just discovered a small cupboard under the driver's seat! Just big enough for a couple of hi viz vests (for French travel), I reckon. Nothing similar under passenger seat, just a load of wasted space.

Which is where the manual says the first aid kit should be. The hi viz jackets are in a small compartment under the centre of the rear seats..

Sorry if this is already in the list of surprises but discovered today that there are two things that each key remembers:

  1. Car mode e.g. dynamic or auto
  2. Climate control settings

Anyone know if it ties anything else to the (non-advanced) key?

Fault codes and diagnostics information gets saved to the key. You can't really do anything with that yourself, but when you take it in to Audi they can read things off there rather than having to plug things into the car.

DAB: if you have "Alternate Frequency" ticked in the radio settings and you are listening to a station on DAB which also broadcasts on FM as well, the radio automatically rolls over to that same station on FM if you go out of DAB range or lose the DAB signal. The station name has "(FM)" appended to the end to let you know it has rolled over.

Electric Windows: if you engage one touch / soft touch to open or close a window but want to stop it part way through, you don't have to pull the window switch in the opposite direction to stop it, you can pull the window switch in the same direction as window travel instead. Its a smoother stop.

I had this as standard on my 07 BMW.... why was it an option on a 14 Audi? :(

Audi have had the key fob diagnostic logging for a while, but it has been implemented when models were revised and wasn't launched across all existing models at the same time.

That's not my point... It was standard on my 07 BMW and it's only an option on a 56k euro Audi S3

Oh dear - I always give them the spare key, which rarely gets used for anything else. I guess they won't find much useful info on there.

I always give them both keys. Many years ago a dealer was doing some work on the car and I guess did something that meant they needed to recode the key. As they only had one, my other (main one) would not remote unlock the car afterwards.

Give them both so that if something happens, both will be done when you pick up the car.

If you drive to garage using the spare, both will have up to date info on them.

Dissappointingly, nothing from the MMI seems to get saved, which means I get blasted with One D or Bare Naked Ladies whenever I turn the ignition on.

Discoved today that the ESC has three possible settings - 'On', 'Sport Mode', and 'Off' !

(As opposed to just being able to switch On/Off)

Regarding ESC, I read somewhere that even in "off" mode it's not completely off; you need to remove a fuse to cancel ESC completely
