Hi,

Whats peoples opinion on getting spacers for an S3 as i know a lot of people have them

Does it improve handling or is it more cosmetic?

What is best make and size to get ?

Alex

I've got them on my S3, mostly cosmetic, haven't noticed any other big difference.

I'm running 12mm on rear and 10mm on front, that seems to be the most popular set up.

My car's lowered as well and there's no rubbing at all.

Spacers are H&R, got them from DPM

Cheers

Are you using H&R spacers?

How much to these tend to set you back?

Yeah, H&Rs, think it was about £185 all in.

Im thinking of getting some spacers. fronts look good in the arches. the rear want to come out. im fairly sure i have an offset of 45 with the 18's im using. is 20mm too much? will that cause issue if i choose to lower it at a later date?

20mm will be waaaaaaaaaaaay too much if your offset is already 45!

Most people have standard wheels (ET54 + 7.5J) and put 12mm/10mm spacers on. Any more and you risk them catching the arches which is pretty much garunteed if you lower it.

ok, thats great. thanks for clearing that up for me. in your opinion what do you think would suit me best then? my wheels are 8j, and im fairly sure is et45

I have 10 front, 13 back but as you know Alex, i wish i had gone wider tbh! The front could have easily been 13 and the rear could have been 15 without any rubbing i would imagine

8mm/10mm front and either 12mm/13mm at the rear.

Damian @ DPM Performance

Hi Damian,

How much for H&R front and back inc bolts?

10mm & 12mm

thanks

Alex

The highest I have seen on the rears in 15mm but 12mm was plenty for me.

Don't forget you'll need extra-long locking wheelbolts.

McGards are M14 x 1.5 and part number 28025 SU.

I got mine from Halfords and they have the black versions on their site: Halfords | McGard Black Edition Security Locking Wheel Bolts 28025SUB

If you go into the store they will ask you what model car your car is, tell them to just find it by the part number or you'll be there all day while they try to find it on the system and then tell you it's not the right part (because the ones on the system are not extra long).
