What have you done today?

Its an S4 rear, and no, i just stopped and quickly took those pics.

I really need to detar the paint and give it a good polish, but every panel has something wrong with it which ****** me off looking at it that closely.

Yeah same with mine theres something minor on every panel with the bonnet, boot plinth and front bumper being the worst as i had a little bump so just going to wait for a decent bumper to come up and maybe get a second hand bonnet painted but first things get the mechanical things sorted first then i will look at the body work it look ok from a distance and when cleaned a little lol

Lol its not a bad bit of kit tbh so hopefully will be ok, oh and your BF cap is on its way th misses posted it today !!

I know that feeling, mine has had a full respray in its previous life, but I think Stevie Wonder would have done a better job!

Yeh!

I peeled the sill trims off the track car earlier in the week, the ones inside the door shuts.

I need to remove the little metal L brackets from under the Sills then i think we're good to go.

Sorta scared to start drilling into the car though!

Also a couple of the door strips need repainted as the guys cocked them up.

On your former S4, are the brackets just riveted on over the top of the underseal, or does it look like they were fitted then the car undersealed?

Washed the wifes Avant and rinsed my wheels to stop the brake dust eating them anymore.

Fitted the new door strips I had from Scott to her car but need to remove sikaflex residue the last owner must have used to glue the failing ones. Main problem is he had them set further up the door do new ones don't cover the goop. I have been looking for a remover fir the sikaflex and found dome stuff I might try. Also fitted the lever for the rear seats Kev managed to source for me. Most productive i have been in ages.

Just waiting to see if issam and crew fix/replace/inspect my rods now, they were deffo faulty but for some reason insisted i sent to lot to JNL to see. None of the other failures had to do this, so I must be special. Neither issam nor JP will tell me what they are expecting to find, or not find, sigh

Did you try tar remover for the sikaflex?

Today i got the O/S rear end refresh all boxed off stripping it was a doddle but had a struggle yesterday with the top arm bushes had to get a flappy drum wheel in the outer bush housing as it had corroded internally and wouldnt accept the new bush had to grind off the metal flush part of the bush drill the centre bushing out and the air chisel out the bush housing. And to top it off the press at work is past its use by date and started to **** oil everywhere just as i had stripped all the o/s down. The oil that came out the diff i replaced less than 12 months ago was black so clearly its flushedsome of the crap out lol new diff seals and oil done. Only thing left is to do the Geo tomorrow.

Also cleaned all the arms up and gave them a quick coat of plastikote metal protekt just to spruce them up a little. Think i will be in need of some shocker mounting brackets as one has a small hole in it.

Today I did the Passat wiper mod, as seen here - RS4 MOD: Aerowipers

My wipers had been juddering horribly for weeks so decided to kill two birds with one stone and get some Passat b5.5 wiper arms from a breakers.

Before (with Bosch Aerotwins):

Not looking too bad but it had always annoyed me that they were so visible while driving!

As I said, I bought from a breaker yard on eBay the wiper arms from a 2004 Passat. Fitting was as easy as wrenching the old ones off the car and bolting the new ones on, using a strip of masking tape to mark where the wipers should sit when parked. I also treated them to a new pair of Bosch blades. Here they are:

Much better! The arms sit much flatter to the screen and are much less noticeable behind the wheel. I haven't had a chance to test them yet but initial uses with the washer fluid are quiet and effective.

Very very happy with this mod, £35 well spent!

Do you find that they miss right in the bottom corner on the passenger side? Mine do, but it's hardly in an area of concern. :)

Nice mod for 35!

I haven't yet, but might do when using them properly. Looking at the pics it looks like the wiper is almost in the corner of the window - could it be you've put the driver's side arm (shorter) on the passenger side? Just a thought as I took the old arms off earlier before realising they weren't the same!

Pretty sure I haven't. I seem to remember reading someone else saying the same thing happened for them. I'll get a pic sometime and have a compare. :)

Yeah I did that when it was new but slowly reverted to original shape, to be honest it's so minor it doesn't affect your view out. After the wipers travel about 40mm you get full contact, so it's all good!

A small price to pay for not having to look at ugly wipers while you're driving I guess!

I have no problems apart from the bosch aero wipers are toss, and i will upgrade when i see necessary although i think the RAC windscreen in my car laminate may be a little on the worn side ready for replacement lol

From memory mine don't stick up as high as others on this thread, I'm using trico neofrom wipers from opie oils and rate them for the money and the fitment :)

I've got the Bosch retrofit aero blades on mine and found them to be superb. First time I've had a set of wipers last 3 years and still clear the screen as good as gold.

Saying that, following my earlier comment I've accidentally purchased some Passat arms and am picking them up tomorrow night :)

I bought bosch ones years ago and the "spoiler" was the wrong way round (presumably designed for LHD), resulting them lifting from the screen.

I tried a few others and they were all **** so went back to quality standard blades.

Recently fitted passat arms to the avant and they're pretty good, so i'll probably get a set for shed too at some point.

Got a replacement passengers side window/motor assembly. Finally got round to fitting it last night, now have a working window. Also got a newer heated mirror glass for that door too (swapped my own door mirror casing onto the new assembly). Took the wheels I got at the same time to the powder coaters. Got a fairly good deal, £30 per wheel and £5 to fit and balance my brand new tyres to the newly coated rims. When they're ready next week, I'll take the car down and swap the new rims on and leave the other set for my winter tyres to go onto.

What colour have you had them done ?? Im a bit curious as to wether they can do all shades of grey/anthracite in powder coating as im thinking i might get the boleros done if they can do the right colour lol !!

They said they can do any colour you want. Various degrees of glitter too. Mine are at Fife Powder Coating. I'm getting 'Sport Silver' a decent amount of glitter effect and a bright silver. They're big standard alloys on a black car, will post a pic of the wheels I have on the car in a few minutes, they're awful just now
