My first mod too. I still remember the adrenaline rush. One false move and... I might have dropped it and had to pick it up. :p

What about a you tube video, I have a set to fit and I'm keen not to mess up.

You may laugh but be warned I done a similar mod on my mine and within a few months the buggers had welded themselves on to the valve resulting in a very nervy half hour or so as I tried various means to remove them without ripping off the valve.......back to standard caps now with no worries.

Yeh... I was thinking of doing something like this until I read about the metal caps sticking/rusting/welding themselves to the valves. Not for me thanks!

Had the same experience of metal caps welding to the valve, the got a tip to put a very small amount of copper grease on the thread first. Never had a problem since. It really needs to be a very small amount, or it melts and runs out over the wheel after a bit of rapid driving and breaking. And those grease stains would not go down well on here!

Dam it - I didn't know this was going to be even more complicated that first envisaged. OK so back to project plan for this one, looks like I'll have to be running even more bench testing and detailed analysis before final approval.

I'll keep you posted

So, a smear of some kind of waterproof lubricant might be required then. I think I've heard of this stuff called... grease?

I'll have to get HSE involved on this one and get the COSHH assessment for this type of material, in the old days I could have run my fingers through my hair to get this material called grease - nothing to run my fingers through anymore !

If they didn't weld themselves on they'd get nicked every time you parked up. I got Audi ones this time without the lock nut (which seized on my last ones) so I had to man handle them off which was 'interesting'! No doubt these ones will be gone soon as they're unprotected.

Anyone done the proper risk assessment for this?

Cheaper ebay items have a knack of welding themselves to the valve, so far I haven't had any issues with the genuine Audi parts. Its a serious upgrade and may void your warranty unless you use Audi parts!

To be honest how long do you leave it before checking tyre pressures? Should never be that long that you cant remove your valve caps.

Lol - BMW insist on fitting these cheap metal valve caps to their cars. Mine have welded on and I have yet to find a way of getting them off!

Lucky it's a company car and I have run flats! I just don't care! I've yet to work out what I'm going to do when I actually need to check the pressures
