Hi guys this is a question for a mate of mine who needs to replace his manual gearbox due to a problem. Does anyone know if you can still buy them new from Audi ( I have told him it would be expensive). He uses his car for work so it's a bit awkward to take his car off the road whilst having any work done on his gearbox so he would prefer to buy another one but can't find any low mileage ones for sale.

It'd probably be a better idea looking for one in a breakers

I've just had to replace mine as the gears shat themselves and it was minced!

You can buy them from Audi, but as everyone else has said, they are expensive.

The S3 box tends to wear it's synchros, and the selector forks are prone to wear, plus the transfer case may give up.

Mine did all of those, but was rebuilt with uprated bearings etc,and a new transfer box.

Thanks for the replies guys I will pass them on. I suppose the risk with second hand is you have no idea on the mileage they have done and could still end up with problems. The one listed with 13000 miles is a different code so it's probably not the same box.
I spoke to him yesterday and the problem he has is an annoying whine mainly in first but can be heard faintly in other gears and at idle he as a horrible grumbling noise which disappears as soon as he depresses clutch but returns as soon as its released.
He has already had the gearbox removed ( whilst having a new clutch, dmf and release bearing) and had the input shaft bearing changed as this was what was diagnosed as the problem but it made no difference.

Maybe get a quote for a rebuild , at least it will come with a decent warranty .

The rebuild on mine was £800.

Not incl a new transfer box at £800 and Audi do not sell parts for those.
