Hi guys , being new to this audi enviroment i could really use some help and assistance with the following.
I want to be able to use my iphone 4s hands free in the my avant. Having read through the audio and owners handbook this is possible, but i am not sure how to go about it.
I would like to be able to use the voice mode function on the steering wheel to make calls and to answer etc.

I have a 2006 B7 with the three spoke mfsw fitted and bose sound system with concert head unit.
Is this going to be a staright forward job and what will i be needing to do the work.
depending on time to do it and cost i may pay to get it fitted but i'd like to cover all options first.

I also understand it is possible to connect an ipod to the concert unit via an adapter unit in the glove box, can anyone tell me more on this subject as its something i want to have fitted.

any help would be great.

Hi Rob, have you actually checked to see if your car has Bluetooth already?

Turn on your ignition and within 30secs, search for Bluetooth devices from your phone.
If you have it, it should appear and the PIN to pair should be 1234 or 0000.

Failing you don't have Bluetooth, then yes, it can be installed so that you can also make full use of your MFSW.
There are guides around, but if you have no knowledge of retrofits and don't feel comfortable, then best to someone to do it.

Just seen you have an Avant s-line special edition, pretty sure you should have BT as standard. Do you a phone dock on either the dash or in the arm rest?

Hi, thanks for the reply.
i have just been out in the car and tried pairing my iphone4s with it, no joy i'm afraid, as you say its probably able use BT but doesnt have the optional kit fitted, bit of a shame but the car does have a few other extra option packs fitted so cant complain .
i dont mind doing the work but as i've got older i have lost some confidence now as far as messing about with cars is concerned.

cheers

Strange that it does not have BT??
Where in country are you, few of us here that can do it. You could also give NHN a PM as he travels all over the country. Or I am in London if of any good.

no handset in arm rest or dash.
i did think it was odd as the radio manual states it has it, as does the owners manual, its allways possible that i am not doing something correctly on the pairing sid eof things.

Just because the manual says so, not always definate, as they use one manual for each stereo, and just assume it has all optional extra's.

My new B7 avant doesn't have it either but my old saloon has the BT module. I priced it up and for far less I bought a Dension pro BT. Gives ipod/iphone integration through your oem stereo via a lead plus it offers full BT for phone and or streaming music. You can control music and take calls using the steering wheel and still displays on the dash screen, great piece of kit and no need to code it in.

I have been trawling the web this evening looking at the pricing of the audi parts to do the job, seem to be a tad overpriced even for used kit, may look into the other third party option mentioned, unless someone on here has the kit and wants to sell for a sensible csh price.....

cheers

The thing with aftermarket kits is you will not be able to use the voice recognition feature on the wheel, which is originally what you wanted.

Ridiculously over priced for something that only does the phone and can't even stream music.

By the time you buy the BT module, IPod adaptor and fit them you're well into decent aftermarket stereos or save and buy something like the Dension or similar. Granted you'll loose the voice activation feature you like but for me(Scottish) it was absolutely useless:)

Ah ha, so the Dension kit wont allow me to answer calls or call a number by simply pushing the answer/call mode button on the mfsw then.
(nothing wrong with being scottish mate, my brother in law is.)

No, no you can do that, Danny is referring to pushing a button and you speaking to the car to find and phone a contact. The Dension won't do that. You press the button and use the scroll wheel to find the contact(displayed on the dash) then hit call once you've found the contact or if someone's calling you, you just answer by hitting the button.
Audi system you can find a contact the same manual way as the dension or speak yourself to the car, doesn't recognise strong accents tho like Scottish.

That sound promising.
taking everything into account here is what i want to be able to todo.
Not fussed about all the iphone /ipod stuff , i just use my iphone as phone and email device, not much else.
I just want to be able to get in the car and the radio or reciever picks up my iphone, if it rings i can push a button on steering wheel to answer the phone . I only have a small contact list so , just want to be able to push button again choose a name or number on the dash display and dial that number and talk, job done.

on the basis of this info what can be recommeded as best plan of attack, i dont need the voice recog options for contact list etc.
