Chaps used my air con this morning and its just not cold it's cool at best nice ice cold that it should be had it re gassed as thought that might be issue and a little bit cooler but still not ice cold like it should be , now is there any way of checking what's up with my system my self ( like u can with climatronic) or have I gotta pay a garage mega money to find fault abc fix it :(

Car is a 2003 a4 tdi

Thanks brad

mines like this but if i leave it on for a while it gets COLD, do you think it might be because its so warm outside it takes longer to get cold

I've noticed mine kind of "kicks in" after a couple of minutes driving ie it needs to get some cool air going through the grill before it starts cooling.

Had it on for over 30 min didn't get any colder iv had the wife in car while iv been under bonnet and on idle pressing off then auto can't hear any clicks in engine bay or notice any drop in revs of the pump kicking in think it will have to go to garage to be fixed :( but the extra elec fan does kick in as soon as auto is clicked

Vagcom wont help if you have a leak.Aircon can be costly if its not 100%.Easy way to check if its cold enough is to feel the pipes at the bulkhead ;they s/b almost too cold to hold.If they are it could be a faulty flap behind the dash

The pipes that are buy the drivers side wing ware they are re filled at ??

Witch flap are u on about behind that dash :/

Thanks brad

thanks for that James ill have a play over the week end and see how i get on :)

is your ECON light lit up ?

i didn't think the econ button should be lit up for air con to be on, i thought that turned it off?? or have i got it wrong but either way i went and checked makes no difference either setting i use blows ice cold air :(

It should be off yes but a fault makes econ light up

ok well its not light up when auto is on :) (u had me thinking i had the setting wrong then lol ) as above plan on checking movement of flaps ect over the week end see what i can find

Ahhh u have it on auto ?

Put it to centre vents not auto

iv tried all the settings but its just not ice cold its cooler then out side but not ice cold as u would hope air con was (if that makes sense)

I now have cold air coming out the vents whoop whoop don't know what iv done either 😟lol

So its been OK and the flaps wernt right.Did you check the pipes?

i checked the pipes after driving home from work about ten min and they felt cold like my freezer pipes do in side the fridge so that means the aircon/pump is defiantly working right?

Sounds good.Easy way to check as I did when I got my current car. Also I think it helps to insulate these pipes as they run in the hot engine bay.Just some pipe lagging with cable ties.Mines now ice cold and no leaks

right im comming back to this now as i dont have cold air again :(

i checked the hvac for error codes the week end and got the following :
00819-high pressure sensor(g65)

01810-actuation motor for temperature flap :right (v159)
41-10 blocked or no voltage

so the g65 seems a very popular failure so replaced this today at silly cost (for a flipping pressure sensor) and no difference

iv currently got the glove box out played with all the setting on heaters and all the motor's and arms seem to move

any body got any other suggestions i dont have full vcds just the lite version so pretty limited as to what i can do/check

I replaced the sensor that's my next boat of call think I'll go quick fit as there offer is if the car is not 10 degrees less no payment so win win fingers crossed going to mates tomora with proper vagcom to test and re set all the motors

There are flap motors on the drivers side too.

Oooo ok I'll have a look at them tonight then can u tell me witch flap motor is linked to the error Abouve??

Sorry can't tell you which flap.
A vcds scan would help you can also check flap movement in basic settings.

Ok in the vcds when I check the movements witch button do I check (sorry for dumb questions but this will be 1st time using full vcds) I know I gotta go into hvac section then check function button is it ??

Off the top of my head. HVAC>BASIC SETTING>FLAP MOTOR SETTING.

Dunno if you got this PM bradh:

Easiest way to do it is force a calibration of all the flaps. This will cause each to open full and close full and so test each flap is fully operational:

Controller 08 - Auto HVAC
Basic Settings - 04
Group 001 (use the up arrow to get to 001)
Go

You'll see all the green values changing in the 6-7 different boxes. Takes about 40 seconds to complete during which time your a/c will turn off and then back on. Check for errors afterwards.

The other way is as I said before on your thread where you go through absolutely everything one by one (again in the HVAC module using Outputs Tests 03)

I've gone nuclear (hopefully) and having a new compressor (£275 recon from here: Audi 14 6SEU14C PV6 | Denso compressor | 8KD260805,8E0260805CC,8E0260805AT,4F0260805J,8E0260805BS,4F0260805G,4F0260805AG,8E0260805BA,4F0260805S,8K0260805,8E0260805BJ,4F0260805P,8E0260805AG,8E0260805CA,8E0260805CB,4E0260805J,8E0260805BL,8K0260805E,8E0) and OEM dryer (£20 eBay) fitted on Thursday. I didn't have any flap problems like you seemingly have.

Ok guys I scanned that car with full vcds no errors now the flaps all worked as they should no errors but we did notice that flicking threw the settings that the aircon torque status stayed on zero all the time is this right ?? Iv attached couple of pics ImageUploadedByTapatalk1403724507949057ImageUploadedByTapatalk1403724516365443

right had multi meter out today and on the actual aircon pump elec plug i got zero when air con off and just under 10v when air con is on so im guessing that the electrical side of things seems to be working, is there any way of checking the elec fan works ?? cars booked into air con specialist for friday for diagnostics at £25 witch i thought was pretty good but just want to try and check the simple things or free things 1st

It almost sounds like your going a very long way round checking why your a/c isn't working.

After all of this work, I'm assuming you've tried the most obvious and had the system re-charged.

They drain the system of any remaining Freon, which does degrade in time and should normally be recharged every couple of years. The System has to be drained correctly (Environmentally Friendly) and it's then re-charge with Freon to the correct pressure.

The pressure is then checked again shortly after, to ensure the the pressure hasn't dropped, if it has then you have a leak somewhere in the system, if the pressure remains constant then your A/C should be working properly. They normally do this for about £35 - £50 and it's a while you wait service.

Most Halfords Service Centres offer this service.

It was last re-gassed in September last year witch is when I stated this thread :( I would of hoped it's still full as it held all the gas as it was re-gassed with no leaks

Yep, I would have expected it still to be fully charged in that case. Especially if the pipes still feel cold to the touch.

Well i think they are as iv since fitted covers over them to can't get to them lol

Really silly question but what setting do you guys use to out air con on been reading about some say put auto on some say to just put vents on

If you still have your "Owners Manual" the info is on page 111 onwards. It's got to be the most confusing instructions ever. Econ Button, Off Button, Recirculation Button, Manual temp controls v Auto Control.............Arghhh

I know what your up against with the controls, I just keep pressing buttons till it feels right.
