I picked up my 3.0 tdi yesterday got to say I'm really impressed with the car! Got some plans what I want to do but it will take time. I'm sure there is going to be a lot questions I will be asking so I will be relying on your brains.

Yeah already been on the phone to them going for dpf delete and a remap but looking to do it in about a months time. Then may be the turbo further down the line. But after seeing yours I think I will be more than happy with the performance. I wanted a manual but this car was very well spec'd but had the tip box so I won't be able to get as much torque.

Says who?
I'm running similar torque and a bit less power than Karl (not for much longer though) through my tiptronic and no issues at all with the box.

I though tht Tip box was the one that handles high TQ's, they use it with the 313bhp version

Lovely car. I've got a B7 3.0TDi tiptronic, that has been re-mapped. I wouldn't worry about the torque; it'll take it.

Have a look at this thread.

Upgrade Audi A5 3.0tdi 239HP>347HP - TDIClub Forums

JD Engineering are a well respected tuner. Despite what the manufacturers say about the maximum torque of gearboxes this is what they will do all day every day. You can exceed that but potentially at some point in the future you may run into issues. I went for a manual car for 2 reasons, the first being I don't like driving auto's and invariably they are less reliable than a manual due to the complexity and second I know that the manual is good for 800Nm with the standard clutch as this has been done with an A5.
When he went to 850Nm the clutch started slipping so he had to back it off.

Out of interest, what sort of MPG are you seeing with round town/ on a run!? I am thinking of an A4 avant 3.0ltr tdi Quattro when it comes to swapping my current car, but not if the MPG is terrible!

Mine is a bog standard 3.0 tdi quattro saloon 240ps.
I drive fairly slow with the odd blast but I get average 35 mpg around town and low 40's on motorway/dual carriageways on DIS.

I think it's really good for a large heavy car with that sort of power

My old B7 3.0 TDI with 6 speed ZF gearbox had issues at 70k, and had not been mapped. Think same gearbox was initially used on the B8 3.0 TDI until the S tronic came out in 2009. Replacement box cost for the B7 was approx. 4k at the time.

Completely different gearbox on the B8 to the B7, The B8 3.0 TDI has a twin plate 228mm clutch to enable it to handle a lot more torque.

I was talking about the conventional torque converter 6 speed ZF Automatic (I think model 6HP26A) which is what my B7 had and I think also early B8s before they rolled out the 7 speed S tronic for the auto model in mid 2009.
