Anyone on here got there car on a classic car policy?
I went to renew the insurance on the 1.9tdi quattro and they have put it on a classic car policy!!
I'm not complaining but was surprised to be honest.
The bloke I was dealing with said due to its age and that its a rare car its a up and coming classic!!

Some 'classic' car policies insist you own and insure a normal car in addition to the 'classic' car, this is to stop people dodging the cost of insurance.
I had a few Triumph Dolomite Sprint's in years gone by, and this was a condition of the insurance.

The other thing they do sometimes is dont allow you to build up no claims bonus on a classic policy. They might apply the NCB from another car, but its then not transferable in future.

You can't acrue no claims on a classic policy and there is usually a limit on the mileage. My Escort Rs Turbo is on a classic policy and it works out at under 300 quid fully comp despite the doubled power output and 6 point roll cage.

There are lots of definitions of a 'Classic' policy, it's probably best to talk to your insurers to get the finer details. Some classic policies are limited mileage, don't accrue No Claims Bonus, are non-refundable etc. The list goes on.

They can be fantastic policies for second vehicles as they make the whole situation of owning a second car, that bit more affordable.

If I can be of any assistance or if anyone would like to see if they qualify for classic insurance, just throw me a PM.

Cheers
Dan.

It's a variable one to be honest.

As a rule of thumb, 12-15yrs old minimum with most underwriters, a low annual mileage, ideally being used as a secondary car.

A 15 year old MX5, 3000 miles a year, being insured along side a daily driver - could be treated as a classic risk.

However you couldn't for example insure a 12 year old Mondeo, used as a daily, 15k a year - as a classic - because it's not a classic risk.

I hope that makes sense?

Cheers
Dan :)

My landrover is on a classic policy and doesn't build NCB. It cost less than £100 to insure each year though so that's not an issue.

Dan does your company still do auto renewals on policy's and take the money out of people's accounts 3 days earlier than agreed in the terms and conditions while also charging three times the going rate?

I have a 24 year old crx and it's insured with Adrian flux, they wouldn't give me a classic policy for that,

It isn't too bad a price though for being an import with all the mods declared, although when it comes to renewal they near double the premium and you then have to haggle them down to a sensible price, they offered a price beater guarantee for me which they did eventually agree to beat the lowest premium I found elsewhere

Would be interesting to hear why a 24 year old, fairly rare car doesn't get a classic policy yet a 15 year old, very common car is on a classic policy?

Is it your only car? My Escort RS Turbo and Fiesta RS Turbo were both on classic policies through HIC (AF sister company). It difd require me having the third car, my A4, as a daily.

My Dolomite Sprint's were on classic policies, they were £200 roughly for 3000 mile limits.
My 2.5 tdi Avant is £216 comp for me and my wife. Don't do more than 6000-7000 miles a year tho.
Classic policy might not save that much, the Sprint was a pretty quick car and would embarrass quite a few modern cars off the line. With the aerodynamics of a brick, it wasn't as fast as modern cars tho, not that I ever took the Sprint to flat out... Officer lol

Flux are just the brokers, they basically do what the compare websites do for you. They don't insure the cars themselves so if none of the insurers they use offer classic policies then they can't offer one. The high renewals are down to pure greed.
