I went out to the car the other day and noticed that all windows and roof was open. The car was full of water and I blamed myself thinking that I had activated them from sitting on the key fob. I decided to deactivate the feature from the MMI but today I went out to the car and the doors were unlocked and the rear driver's side window was down. I'm panicking now as I can't be sure that the car will remain locked and windows staying shut. Any ideas?

Regards,

Mark

Never come across this. Are you sure it's disabled from the MMI? Have you tested it? If it definitely isn't that, take the car to the dealers and get it sorted!

It's definitely deactivated and very worrying. It's like the car has a mind of its own.

I disabled the function in MMI as well after sitting on my keys one day and letting some rain in... never had the problem since, has stayed off. It's a shame you can't separately disable the windows up and windows down, as it would be good to be able to leave the windows open but put them up from a distance if it rains, without the danger of putting them down when you don't want them to.

You can. Even though the feature is off, if you hold the lock button on the fob, all windows and roof close.

Really? Oh, that's good then. I'll have to test it out.

I have known this across many makes and models of car.

The first (and most common) possibility is that something has held the unlock button on the fob.
Disable the feature, and test it out by holding down the unlock button.

If this is truly disabled - the second probability is RFI related (if the dealer has discounted an electrical fault with the car).
Something in the vicinity is radiating a 433MHz (UK) frequency, or an IF of that frequency, causing the car to unlock. It's a ****** to find, as it could be something like next doors microwave oven, garage door opener, remote thermometer, remote control gates, wireless alarm devices, remote meters, etc.

I successfully demonstrated this on my neighbours brand new 5-series BMW. I brought home a lowish power RF link from work, pointed it at his car, and fired it up. All his electric windows lowered, doors unlocked, hazards flashed, and his instrument pack lit up like a christmas tree!

If you live around Droitwich in Worcestershire, BBC R4 LW at 198kHz pumping out 500kW of RF power usually locks people out of their cars, swamping the mW's that the remote fob the car uses!

Or it could be just a problem with one of the vehicle's control modules as has been reported on a Ford forum I used to frequent...

Quite. That's why I said, second option is..... after the dealer has discounted an electrical fault with the car :)

Sorry for dumb question, what can you deactivate from the MMI? Auto windows?

I must be missing something... What sort of key fob is this? Mine has just three buttons - lock, unlock and temporary tailgate unlock.

Yep... and if you hold down lock or unlock for a while it'll operate the windows and sunroof by default.

Hmmmm. Leans out of window with remote...

Doesn't do anything if I hold down unlock, but I guess it might be turned off by default in the MMI. What's the thinking behind being able to open all the windows from the keyfob? I can understand wanting to shut them all, but not open them all.

I often open all the windows when the car is in my drive to let some air in, while I'm waiting for she who must be obeyed to change her shoes / handbag etc.

Or close all the windows and sunroof when you spot it's raining, from the comfort of your house !

I've experienced this on my 8V sedan twice now. Both times it was the left hand side rear window. One time it was opened up only one centimeter - another time it was exactly at 50% down. It can't have been the key fob being pressed, as it would have been all the windows, then...

My father has the exact same problem on his A5 sportback - also the left hand side rear window...

It must be a problem with a control unit somewhere...

He's had his to the dealer several times, but they've been unable to find any faults or errors logged in the system.
