Hello,

Just wondering if it is possible to remove a K03 turbo from the top of the engine bay? This sounds more appealing to me than spending my Saturday underneath the car.

Has anyone got any preferred methods of removal who have done it more than once?

Your help is appreciated as always.

I think it is possible, you may have to remove the engine mount so you can swing the engine forward far enough to get it out.

Last time i did a k04 i was lucky enough to need a new clutch and flywheel aswell so while the box was out the way the turbo was really easy to get to.

I wouldn't consider yourself lucky if you need a new clutch and flywheel :p

I'm interested to see the replies here as I may be swapping out my k03 for a k03s!

Yeah absolutely, undo the turbo to manifold bolts (3x17mm), then undo the 13 'manifold nuts, remove the exhaust manifold, the rest is self explanitory, there's lots of room once the manifold is out.

Sorry mate, not ******* on your fire but I'm pretty sure the manifold nuts are 12mm... Just before he goes and rounds them with a 13! lol

They are definitely 12mm, I took a K04 manifold off this morning :icon_thumright:

An obstruction spanner helps, might be worth picking one up.

I have managed to remove and install my k04 from the top without removing the manifold. There is just enough space between the brake booster, head and firewall. But this was on a lhd car and also the longer compressor outlet on the k03 will be in the way.

You may notice I said 13 manifold nuts..... There are 13 12mm nuts..........
