Hi guys,

I really need some help as I am worried about my car! I've got a 2.0 TDI Audi A4 & it's done 145k. Over the past day there's been this really loud sound coming from the engine and i'm not sure what it is.

IT'S A VIDEO SO CLICK ON IT :D

Here's a link:

I've been doing some research into and most people say that 'they need to hear the sound' the car doesn't shake at all, it's just really loud!

The engine only makes this noise when it's idle, when I slightly press the throttle it goes away.

It's only recently had the cambelt done & got MOT'd in May.

On my MOT there's something that might be of help, they've put ' Under-Trays fitted obscuring some underside components'.

If you need anymore information then let me know. If that link doesn't work I will try to post another.

Regards,

Dom

Sounds similar to a failing DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel)

Although could be a number of things. Best take to a garage to check all belts and tensioners as it could be something like that as well.

I'm going to be getting it looked at either today or tomorrow.

I will keep this post updated so others can learn from it :D

I had a similar noise mine turned out to be bearings in balance shaft failed went in sump and lost a tooth on pump so the chain was jumping making the noise had to replace conrods too as well as some other parts

Had it checked out and it was the heat guard on exhaust had come loose! No need to panic anymore, feel like a bit of an idiot now lol
