Next rs3

Check this out for what the next RS3 might be like if we are lucky...

The air brake at ~1:43 is outrageous!

Its a 5 pot, it looks and sounds great and a drive select button on the steering wheel [adjustable suspension] where do i sign.

I would buy that tomorrow with my R8 fund, especially if its in very limited numbers (good for residuals)

99.9% it wont ever get built like most of the other cool VAG cars ... also i suspect its just a show mock up with no real testing as they are driving it very slowly

I need an airbrake :D

That is the first thing that I have seen Audi do that would tempt me away from my current RS3 (R8 asside)

Likewise mate, but unless its priced reasonably at no more than £45k with a decent spec, I may just have to hold onto my baby for a year or two longer ;-)

if only, but with 550bhp and an air brake i would expect it to be in the 70-80k mark, much more than that and you may as well get a GTR or 911

Sounds like a 5-pot...

it does indeed sound like a 5 pot, which is great news, if they use it (VAG have a habbit of testing stuff and not building it)

it looked like on one of the corners the understeer was being dialed out with the brakes, driver left footing it or the new torque vectoring?

and was it in full auto on one of the bends? odd gear change

the outside really needs some agreesive mods, i think the creases in the side make the stock car look fussy, IMO the 8P looks much better, i think its a car that would suit creased arches like RS6 and urquatty

I think 'EDL+' is a certainty for this car. Maybe even a mechanical diff if they really want to push the boat out (like on the GTI Performance Pack).

Audi/VW has Friedrich Eichler the engineer who worked on Mercedes new A45 engine.
Audi has already hinted the S3 plus 2.0TFSi 4-pot with 375bhp.
I can only assume he'll be involved in the next generation 5-pot too, which in my opinion has to be over 400bhp to fit nicely between the S3+ and the next RS4.

Rumor: Audi Planning 375 hp S3 plus - Fourtitude.com

If they keep it a 5-pot, and put an RS6 style shoulder on those arches, and the saloon stays under £45k then chances are good I'll be going for one next year.

that would certainly tick the boxes

i am still worried they will stick they dynamic steering and suspension on them which makes cars feel totally devoid of driver connection, you end up with something like the R Golf or A45 AMG, very fast and competent but with as much involvement as a console game

I see the S3 has now been launched in soft top mode - the first in as many years - starting at £38k, so using purely guesswork I would say an RS3 basic would need to be early to mid £40's to justify the market and take a lions share, with maybe a soft top RS3 @ £50k - thoughts?

i think the s3 soft top will be a massive flop just like the mk6 golf R soft top . i have owned my 14 plate s3 for a few months now and can not fault it apart from the bad road noise from the tyres on a motorway run but that is it . i think the next gen rs3 will be top notch if the s3 is anything to go by .

How's your oem turbo holding out ?

I've heard a few of the first built s3 8v turbos going pop after being mapped ..

Sadly that's the younger age profile that Audi are aiming at now:angrymod:

i think all manufacturers are doing it, i drove a 235i last weekend and it was a hugely capable and well setup car, with a very comfy ride. But i felt totally remote from the car. It also felt no way near as fast as the RS3 and positively weezy up the top end of the revs (new engine run in map?) the gearbox is also very lazy compared to the duel clutch.

Now the M4 on the other hand was just ****** brilliant, actually feed back from the wheels and steering with out the S&M ride of the the RS3, as fast as the 3 to 85 but then on woosh :) and a vastly better driving position

I want one badly :)

Yeah... I've heard of quite a few unmapped cars turbos going too ... new S3 and the Golf Mk 7 R.

Apparently VAG have now revised it and this fault should only affect earlier models.

No, not anymore ... there has been a big "scandal" regarding the recent lease deal offers on them.

Basically some lease companies were advertising and offering personal leases whereas VW FS subsequently (after around 1200 orders !!) said that the offer was for sole traders and business users only.

As a result my order was cancelled last week.

I think I'll wait and see what the next RS3 is like now !

I'm with you Martay, saloon, 5-pot, RS6-esque body and a price tag around £45k and I'll be all over it. Although, I could be tempted into a Sportback too.

If some of the styling is like the A3 Clubsport Quattro concept, then I'll happily put a deposit down.

Just over the past couple of weeks I have been considering the new RS3. The more I see the new S3 I really like the new edgier styling. My time in the X5 is almost over and although I love our little Cooper S on the back roads, I need a car all to my own and not shared with the wife.

I'm still tempted by a new Cayman S, but the lure of Quattro drive, rear seats and space to carry more than 2 bags of shopping is pushing me towards the new RS3. Roll on Paris in October.

they have made the S3 saloon so i cant see why they wouldnt do it for RS3. and you know it will have oval pipes this time!

Still can't see sufficient difference to change a "previous-generation" RS3 for a 2015 version with just 8% more torque and a better SAT NAV display, however...

Ever so interesting for me, are comments from Stephen Reil (Audi’s head of development) as reported by Matt Prior in Autocar - 16th October 2014

"The previous-generation RS3 had wider tyres on its front than its rear to improve chassis adjustability. As standard, the new version has the same 235/35 R19s all round, but 255-wide tyres for the front only are an option. The 20mm-wider front tyres offer you higher grip, a stronger turn-in and a sharper dynamic, which makes it really fun to drive,” said Reil.

My RS3 in warm/summer weather runs 235/35 R19 rears and 255/30 R19 fronts - same as the 2015 RS3 'option'

In cold/winter weather we run 235/35 R19 all round - same as the 2015 RS3 'standard' :notme:

Mr. Reil might also consider, as I have found (on my own RS3 and others) that by dropping the tyre pressures from the standard 41/39 to 39/37 the car handles and rides much better whatever tyre combination is fitted, and the tyre wear is far more even and will consequently last longer.

A GREAT package the "previous-generation" RS3 :thumbs up:
Though seriously gobsmacked yesterday by the RS6 and RS7 :scared2: but not by the R8 V10 Plus :notme: I'll be hanging on to BLUEY for some time yet  but never say never...:ermm:

And from a friend in Ingolstadt this afternoon came this:

Audi RS3: Tech secrets revealed by DAN PROSSER (EVO) 16 OCT 2014

We take an early look and passenger ride in the next Audi RS3, which has been out testing at the Nurburgring

After completing more than 1000 laps of the Nurburgring during an intensive two-year development programme, Audi’s second-generation RS3 is nearing sign-off. The engineers at Quattro GmbH – Audi’s performance division – confirmed that it will buck the downsizing trend and retain the previous model’s characterful five-cylinder engine.

Power is up to around 370bhp – which will slash the 0-60mph sprint to just over four seconds – but modifications have been made to the intake and exhaust systems, and even the engine internals, to reduce both fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

Not only will the new RS3 be faster and cleaner than the model it replaces, it should also be more fun to drive. ‘We still have the Haldex four-wheel drive system,’ says Quattro boss Heinz Hollerweger, ‘but new software gives us more opportunities to send power to the rear axle. That gives the car more drift angle.’

Hollerweger also confirmed that the forthcoming model will ride more pliantly than the previous version, which should go some way towards answering the main criticism of that car.

A passive suspension system will come as standard, although buyers will be able to opt for an adjustable Magnetic Ride set-up. Weight distribution has been improved for this new model, thanks in part to the relocation of the battery towards the rear of the car, while the brake calipers are lifted directly from the R8 supercar.

Carbon ceramic discs are available on the front axle for those drivers who’ll use their RS3 on track – or just push it to the very limit on the road.

The only gearbox option will be a quick-shifting twin-clutch unit. The turbocharged five-cylinder engine has been tuned for immediate response and low down torque to better suit real world driving habits.

The new RS3 is likely to cost in excess of £40,000 when it arrives in the UK in the first half of 2015.

From the passenger seat – Dan Prosser

At the RS3’s tech reveal event Audi laid on factory driver and former Porsche Supercup champion Frank Stippler to give high-speed passenger rides around the fearsome 13-mile Nurburgring. Despite the streaming wet conditions the car found impressive turn in bite, slipping into understeer in a progressive, predictable fashion.

The car – which rode on the passive suspension set-up – seemed to absorb the bigger bumps and kerbs very well, and out of the slower corners Stippler was able to pull off a series of neat four-wheel drifts.

The RS3 felt rapid in a straight line and it’s certain to look the part when the camouflage wrap is peeled away. We’ll reserve judgement until we get to drive it for ourselves, although the early signs are very promising.

Yes it is. Not much room
In the front, and helps distribute some weight to the rear.

Thanks Paul, but frankly speaking, I cannot find where it is in the boot?

Its on the right side closest to the back of the boot.
Under a black cover with about 10 bolts securing the cover.

It's well hidden and protected.

I charge mine through the permanent fed cigarette/ 12v supply socket in the boot which is part of the luggage pack.

I'm really temped by the new RS3, but talk of Sportback only is putting me off, I'd a prefer a Saloon.

So the problem will be..... believe Audi saying Sportback only, buy one, then curse when the Saloon is launched 12 months later, or hold out hoping for a Saloon that then never appears, then miss getting an RS3. Hate all this guessing lark!

The saloon is defiantly coming out my Audi sales man and his boss have both told me be after the sport back

Hope that's true. But history makes me not believe anything a dealer says. They know as little as us usually. Right up until Audi (or any other Manufacturer) actually releases something in the metal.

Dealers often hear rumours before they reach the journalists, but they don't 'know' which are true and which are rumours.

I'm the same though, saloon or nothing. Probably.

Information from my local dealer suggests launch of the new RS3 will be sometime around June 2015. Like the current model, numbers will be limited, my own dealer is only being allocated 6 with one them being a demonstrator. So I took the plunge and reserved one!
