Hi,
In our little fleet we have a VW R32, a TT 2.0L and an S3. I would like to change the oil on the TT and note the oil filter construction is the same for all of these cars in that they have a reuseable canister with a paper element.
I have not taken off the under tray recently for a detailed inspection of the accessibility of the oil filter and so is this the sort of tool that I should buy or will I be fine with a simple 36 mm socket from Halfords. I want to be able to put is back on with a torque wrench and so an adjustable spanner is not for me!!

Thanks for your help,

Surely someone has changed their own oil?

Sometimes it can take a while to get a reply especially in the day as most people are working...but yeah as above.

"most people are working" - Why don't you just come out and say it Ron, i'm a slacker ok? Browsing car forums during the day. No need to be passive agressive about it.

Hahah it's not in my nature to be aggressive (over minor stuff)

Do you work nights then?

This is why I said 'most people' ...just in case they're were a few people on here out of work or working nights .. :D

I'm winding you up :p

Normal 36mm socket will do the trick. Though if you don't want to make an oily mess I would get the oil filter drain tool too, otherwise invest in a can of brake cleaner to clean up afterwards.

One of these

Definetly get the drain tool, will be messy without it. Also bear in mind it still takes a good 10-15 mins to drain the filter housing completely.

Meh, I didn't find it too messy, just have your bucket/tray ready.
