Some may (or may not) remember that I popped into the forum briefly last year around the end of June after I placed an order for an S3. Unfortunately, due to a change of circumstances and no build date some 2 months after ordering, I cancelled my order and decided to stay with my current A5 Sportback.

I am now in a position to order again and following a (all too brief) test drive last Thursday, I did exactly that on Saturday morning. I managed to negotiate a deal that I am happy with using a DTD quote as a basis.

Specification:

S3 Sportback S-Tronic in Sepang Blue

18" 5 Arm Parallel Spoke Alloys
Advance Key
Bang & Olufsen Sound System
Comfort Package
Door Mirrors - auto-dim and folding
Extended mono.pur interior finish
Hold Assist
Interior Light Package
LED Headlights
Parking System Plus
Privacy Glass
Reversible boot mat
Reversing Camera
Tech Pack with Audi Connect

My salesman has indicated a September delivery but I'm not going to hold my breath. I expect late October/early November.

Now the wait begins - again!

Nice spec -p enjoy it! Might want to google about the advanced key a bit, I got put off by the 'stolen in 6 seconds' threads here suggesting they make the car a lot less secure... but its internet stuff, so who knows how true.

One option I would drop is advanced key. It's great getting in and out but the sensors lock and unlock the car continually when washing it and due to the start stop function, the car sometimes starts when you press stop ! I know the work a rounds but it is a ****** nuisance.
It also bleeps from the dis when the key isn't quite close enough, eg. On the boot, and suggests the wrong key is available contact dealer !
Otherwise your spec is similar to mine but you need ACC if you're buying STronic IMO.

Nice spec. You might get a September delivery; I ordered around this time last year and collected on the 3rd September. Could have had the car even earlier if I'd taken it on a 13 plate...

I've had Advanced Key on both of my A5s and neither has been stolen yet (at least not to my knowledge with respect to my first A5 - I haven't seen it for 3.5 years). I appreciate what you're saying but if we acted on the perceived threats/rumours regarding car theft etc, none of us would ever buy a nice, well spec'd car again. I don't do many miles per year (3-4000 atm) and my car is kept in a locked garage unless I am actually using it. I also live in the deepest corner of a cul-de-sac so no passing 'traffic'. I appreciate that it would be at risk when away from home though but that's what insurance is for.

Regarding the locking/unlocking while washing the car, the solution is simple - leave your keys indoors out of the way. I do have that issue when washing the A5 but it is only because I had the keys in my pocket.

Also with respect to engine starting when you press the engine start/stop button after the auto Start/Stop function has kicked in, the car I demo'd last week did that after I had stopped at the dealer and the function kicked in. When I turned the key off (no advanced key), the engine started briefly before shutting down correctly. I assume that it is the correct operation and that is what my salesman suggested.

All in all I am happy with my choices and that's the important thing. :icon_thumright:

Thanks for your comments guys.

Cant wait to see this car as i am toying with ordering the exact same spec but with the pan roof. Did you go for the Lunar Leather?

No, I decided to stick with the standard black on black. I don't fancy the task of keeping the lunar silver clean - even with the few miles/year I do.

Lee551247, I've a Sepang Blue Sportback on order and I've gone for the Lunar Silver leather with mono.pur (no pano roof though).

The demo I drove had parade red, which I quite liked but thought I would regret eventually (and I had spec'd phantom black at that point). When Sepang was made available I changed my order, and there was a monsoon grey saloon in the dealer with Lunar Silver. It wasn't an option I was considering until I saw it. It really lifted the cabin and looked very classy (in my opinion).

Mind you, I've never been a fan of coal black interiors, my boxster had red (RS60 spider) and my X5 was beige. I'm build week 26 so can post pics when it appears. I have seen an RS4 is Sepang/Lunar and it looked fantastic. I do agree it will be harder to keep looking spotless though.

I can't wait to see it, when do you get it? I've seen a sportback in monsoon grey with lunar and that looked nice just think the sepang blue will look a lot better.

im the same as you with regard to interiors, I try and avoid black if I can!

I should have it by the end of July

I wouldn't have gone Lunar if the dash, carpets, headlining, full doors were Lunar, but I think the contrast between the Lunar and black interior works really well. Ideally I'd have liked the seats two-tone, black bolsters and back, Lunar sections for the seat base and back like I've seen in a few other Audi's.

The only thing I'm not sure about is what the colour of the stitching is. I'd like it darker (grey/black) especially with the mono.pur but I couldn't physically get in the S3 saloon I saw, and could only see through the window. Was hard to tell from that view.

I just find black/black/black very dull, sure it's easier to keep, and probably helps resale, but it's my car and I want it a bit different from 99% of those out there ..

Completely agree with you. I had the black bolsters with lunar colour centres in my old S3 8P. I would like the supersports seats in lunar leather but I don't think they do it.

Getting back to my car on my thread  ...

I've just received a text from my sales exec that my S3 will be built the week commencing 21 July (Week 30?) and should be at the dealer mid August. Although I have a personal plate, I'm waiting until 1st September for collection.

Besides which, I've promised my son that he can use my A5 Sportback as his wedding car on Aug 15th.

Now I am getting excited. :yahoo:

Just amended my order to add the Adaptive Cruise Control since it comes highly recommended on the forum.

No change to build week either. :icon_thumright:
