A clay cloth? Humm...

I saw this at the weekend and quite like the look of it... Interested to know if any of our detailers or traders have experience? Brodster?!

Looks interesting that, may have to invest in one. Black is a nightmare to keep clean

I have both the chemical guy clay cloths, work great and very fast to use.

I haven't picked up a clay bar since getting them.

Thats good to know cueball, think i will get myself one now.

Clay towels are brilliant guys......can do a whole car in about 15 mins. Unfortunately I dont stock them yet but I can get them. They are quite expensive but well worth it...........same goes for the clay mitts too, they are just as good and as effective.

Thanks for the comments about this, I thought it was a cool product. So I think I will get one ordered and give it a go! :icon_thumright:

I think the Autosmart one is about £20 quid Aaron.

There's a CarPro one for about £24 too. Quite fancy one if it's that much easier than bar.

I've been trying to get one but the stores down here have been sold out.

I've not really heard a bad thing about them.
Their longevity is not as good as a bar but that's it.

used the clay mitt worked really well just need to work out how to clean it lol

Cheers Scott, will be trying it this weekend if the ****** weekend weather clears up. Local 'Halfrauds' had it so took opportunity of 3 for 2 offer to get some more shampoo.

In case you are going to get some, the Farecla series is a staged approach, but the detailing spray is at the far right of the display (for finishing) not at the far left for paint prep (I couldn't see it to start with).

Right, update on the Farecla clay mitt. Very easy to use, but you MUST lubricate heavily. If you don't bits of the 'clay' substance on the mitt will transfer across onto the paint and then it's quite an effort to get it off. I'd say overlubricate if you want to keep the mitt in best condition, but it's the easiest 'claying' I've ever done. Paint feels glass smooth, and despite the S5 having a large surface area it only took about 30 minutes to do the whole car including windows. For the money & ease it's a no brainer unless you're on of the purist detailer breed!

Cheers for the review Warren, I collected one on the way home so I will be giving it a go tomorrow!.. I agree even when using clay kit I would always over spray just to be sure!lol

Cheers again! :)

I think that even the purists are moving over ;)

your first point is very important though... lots of lube... I for example, use my cloth/mitt on a wet car, with snowfoam on it and use a full bucket of strong dilution shampoo.

also go very lightly with them...and 'break' the mitts/cloths on your glass before the first use on the paintwork....

So if done properly will these cloths leave any marring or swirl? Seems like potentially they could ?

will a water sprayer be fine with these or do you have to use a special detaling spray, in the vid with the first pass sounds like he's rubbing sand paper over the car:uhm:

They sell a detailing spray to go with it for about £8.

My paint is new, and so I'd have seen swirl if it had created it. I kept it very wet, used it lightly and there was very little noise (but then the car is too new to have much crap on it).

If you use these cloths the correct way and use lube then they wil not cause marring or swirling.....if they do then your doing something wrong. Alot have matching clay lube but you can use a quick detailer or a bottle with shampoo in it. As long as it lubes the panel it will stop marring.

Here is also a handy tip for you all using one.....dont use it straight out of the bag onto your paint. Clay your windows first as this preps the clay before use on your paint..............dont think it suggests this but its a great handy tip that has been handed around between detailers

Yea I took "the_cueball's" tip and used the clay cloth on the windows first to prep the cloth as "brodster" said also!... I found it very easy to use and as the guys have said above just make sure you keep it properly lubricated or it will cause issues like a clay bar would.

My Granny's Yaris sounded like sandpaper before I used the cloth!lol

If you buy the AS or ebay blue version before using it soak it for 1/2hr beforehand

Look back at Shaun's posts... Who else thinks Yaris reads like **** if read quickly?!
You scared the ****** bejesus out of me Shaun!

So, I used mine yesterday - bought a clay mitt from eBay:

CLAY MITT CAR CLEANING FASTER THAN CLAY BAR FINE ALTERNATIVE TO TOWEL CLOTH | eBay

First impressions, really impressive! Managed a whole car in about 20mins, including glass of course, and considering I haven't clayed in years, and never used a clay mitt, I didn't go too far. Still impressed with the results, and you can hear the difference as the contMinants lift which is helpful. Goes from a scratching noise to squeaking!

Defo need to get one of these with all the tree sap that has been gathering on the car over the past few weeks!!

I'd be wary about dragging the stuff the clay cloth picks up across the rest of the paintwork. Does that happen?

As long as the car is well lubricated, it should pick it up and the lube should help it stick to the cloth.
