Alright all, it's been a while so sorry to come back asking boring questions rather than with something Interesting! Right my ****** car is doing my head in, it won't communicate with vcds, well it will talk to abs module on a good day but that's it! Engine module just says no response from controller, which is annoying me as I need to do some logs. So far I've ripped out half the dash to check on the k line and any connection's and all is fine. Must be getting power and be an earth as its talking to abs and powering up the ross tech cable. Aftermarket stereo is unplugged and k line correct there too. Any ideas? All constructive suggestions appreciated :)

Is it a genuine cable, remember if its an eBay cable these only work with vcds lite.

Cheers gents, yeah it was at a proper independent vag garage with full up to date licensed ross tech gear :( he tried fiddling with various settings but still no communication. Very annoying as I know I'm over fuelling!

Why not get a cheep eBay cable £6ish and download vcds lite and you can check everything as you go.

Did you try turning all electrical stuff off, radio, air con, any cruise, lights etc?

Early cars don't have much 'band width'. Mine couldn't be Revo mapped through the port as it kept timing out.

One last trick that has worked for me on golfs and an A4 in the past with no coms... Remove and unplug the radio.
Not sure why it works, but it often does.

I had similar problems too, ended up disconnecting the battery for a while and switch interior lights on. VCDS started to read again, once everything was connected. Didn't know what the exact problem was.

Thanks guy's, I'll try disconnecting the battery for a while and see what happens , anything is worth a go :) tried removing the stereo as I had that problem with a flashed revo map on an old agu and the aftermarket stereo was interfering but no joy this time. Sad to rely on vcds so much lol
Edit: I have a copy of vcds lite and that won't connect to anything at all where as the full copy will at last talk to abs and airbags :(
