So i recently purchased myself an A3! loving it at the moment.

My first little project is going to be to get MP3 functionality and was hoping some of you could point me in the right direction.

I have 2l TDI 2006 3door... Built in at the moment is the Audi Symphony 2 system with Bose sound system AND parrot bluetooth device.

So whats the best way to incorporate mp3 function into my set up without effecting the use of my Parrot devise and still getting the best quality out of my Bose system?.. im sure some of you have been in my situation before

And please be gentle with me i'm quite new here and to all of this! :)

Depends what you want from the system, if you just want an auxin then use the cd changer port via a separate system to provide, if you wanted mp3 with head unit screen data, then consider an rns-e upgrade of which e can supply/fit & use sd cards.

PM me if anything is of interest :)

I'm not too sure myself really! i guess it depends on how much more an RNS-E upgrade will cost compared to just adding in an aux....

I use a Grom Audio box that plugs into the cd changer port on my Symphony 2, this gives you bluetooth connectivity for music streaming and phone calls (will mean you'll probably have to get rid of your Parrot) it also gives you an auxiliary cable and a usb port all of which you can play music through. I wrote a quite a bit on the installation and general feedback:

The unit is really good, I noted you use your phone as a satnav, so do I! The bluetooth means that I simply place my phone into a holder when I jump in the car and the directions come through the speakers as well as any music I might have playing. I've also placed a mic in the middle light cluster that allows me to take calls, I've had no complaints on the call quality. Think it cost me £110 all in, don't know your budget but for me it was worth it for the neat and tidy look!

Thanks!

After doing a bit more research on my lunch break i think im going to go for something like this rather then installing whole new unit...

Does your Grom devise display whats playing (artist, song etc) on you Symphony 2/Dash

No problem! :)

Err my car is an 04 plate so the DIS system is pretty old, I think that on newer cars it may display information, however don't hold me to that! Worth checking with Grom Audio themselves as they are quite helpful over the phone.

I usually have my phone in the holder so I use that to check what song is playing etc. However all the controls on the head unit can be used to change track etc so it's not necessary to have your phone out.

Will have to give them a call then.

I have an Iphone5 do they do an adapter suitable for it?... or does it have a usb port i can plug my white charger into.

And also.... seeing as i have a Parrot bluetooth device already i dont really need the extra bluetooth function the Grom provides.... but will installing the grom interfere with my current Parrot bluetooth device?

Sorry for hurling all the questions at you :)

No problem haha!

I have an iPhone 5 and simply use the usb port to charge the phone, I use bluetooth for everything else. I'm assuming you'll want to play music through the USB port? If so then you can just buy a Grom box that allows just the iPhone input (it also has a auxiliary for anyone with a different phone/iPod), that will actually save you money compared to a box with bluetooth. I just looked on the site and you might have to buy the iPhone/iPod cable they sell, however you may just be able to plug your iPhone cable into the USB port... Again I'd ring up and ask I'm sure they'll be able to tell you everything!

Sorry I couldn't give you a more definitive answer!
