Audi A3
Got rear ended about 4 weeks ago, damage was minimal assumed they'd just repair or replace the bumper, the lady who hit me accepted everything so luckily I didn't have to pay my excess. So I handed it in for repair.
My concern was that the parking sensors remain working, as I'd had issues with them before and simply had to replace all of them with new sensors and freshly painted. So in other words, I knew what sensors were on the car prior to me handing it in for repair.
Anyway a week went by, I started missing my car as I'd been given a Vauxhall Insignia which although almost brand new still had nothing on my 10 year old A3. Phoned them up and it turned out my car was ready for collection, I went in and whilst checking it over I noticed the one of centre parking sensors at the rear was recessed and flaking paint with slight red coming through... I asked to speak with the workshop manager who told me that the sensor must have come off of another vehicle that was previously red and that they had "tried" to paint it and it wouldn't stick.
I'm not gonna lie I was stunned! I knew exactly what sensors were on the car before I handed it in and one of them had definitely NEVER been red... So I said I'd come back the next day for them to sort it as also the holes for the sensors were a bit iffy. Luckily I had one of the old sensors at home that I knew worked correctly and instead of having a go about the sensor just asked them to fit it, clean up the holes and I'd be on my way... Here's where I got annoyed. When he gave me the "old" red sensor that was installed it was a completely different style to the ones that should be fitted. So now I knew something was up...
I asked to look at the repair pictures, which they briefly flashed up on screen for me but obviously I couldn't study standing in the middle of a reception. So I very politely asked for them to send me the pictures to which I received a reply of "under the data protection act we aren't allowed to send you the pictures, please ask the insurance company". Strange as I'm pretty sure it's my car in the pictures... No?
Anyway I have phoned the insurance company who also laughed at what the garage said to me, they've now sent an email instructing the garage to give me the pictures... I'm now intrigued to see if someone has nicked my sensor whilst it's been in for repairs... Annoying as they cost as easy £20 off eBay and significantly more from Audi!
What does everyone think? Me being crazy or a something that I should keep chasing?
