After a few years of living with the rear wheels locking on full lock and always taking it easy on those tight turns the problem has finally been resolved.
I have been put off fitting a second hand replacement haldex controller because of how common this problem is on the S3 - thinking that was the issue becuase the problem went away when the fuse was out. My thinking was unless you knew the donor part there would be a strong possibility I would be adding to my problems and replacing it with another dodgy one and then having to think the problem may then be elsewhere, like the diff....It's happenned before on old fiesta on another specific part - took 3 different ebay purchases to resolve.
Anyway, long story short - managed to find an exact match brand new one off EB*Y in USA. Including duties, postage and controller, total price was £161. I then got Volks Autos to fit it and change the oil and filter at the same time, although it didn't really require it becuase that was only done about 2 years ago (approx 2,000 miles ago!) which did not resolve the problem - Not sure what I was originally thinking because if by removing the fuse the problem was cured god knows what miracle I was expecting by simply changing the fluids alone - so others take note! Yes, the fluids need changing at the right intervals, but really un-neccessay in that instance...well, that was my logic.
Feels like I'm driving a new car, although after a few years of being careful on those tight turns I find I am still taking it easy. Hopefully i will snap out of it!
