Hi guys,

Need a bit of help finding an appropriate cooling sensor for my 3.2.

I think its the sensor that's gone, as the car never gets up to running temp now, as soon as the engine is on, the fans come straight on on full blast, and needle never moves over 50 deg C.
I did a scan, and came back with "P0118 - Engine coolant temperature circuit, high input." Can someone confirm that this is related to the sensor? or are there other possible causes?

Now for sensors, looking on-line, I can see two kinds for the 8P. One says "variant1 coolant sensor" and other is "variant2", but are both quoted as fitting my car.

Any ideas Chaps? Thanks

As another thought, we had a similar issue with our mk 5 in that the fans were on like a tornado even from cold. Has your air on stopped working? In our case it was an air con pressure switch that had blown out causing loss of refrigerant. This put the engine into emergency mode and so the fans were on full blast.
Just a thought for you.....

Thank you for the input. Never would of thought of that. Last time I checked air-con was ice cold, but ill check it again.
Was the mk5 throwing any codes when that happened? when you say engine in emergency mode, u mean limp mode, or just emergency mode for the fans, as to not overheat the engine?(mine is in the latter)

Cheers

I cannot tell you if we had any codes as the car was taken to VW and they put it on their machines. It is my son's car and he did not report any loss of power. The tech said that the fans come on full blast as a protection device to prevent any overheating. We could see the refrigerant that had escaped from the system on the under tray below the engine.
A new pressure switch and air con refill and everything is fine.

Thanks for that, didn't know about that catalogue. Straight to bookmarks
