8V S3 Tuning Thread

Well, I've gotten some pricing for the Supersprint system for us down in Oz. Just the normal TBE, not the twinpipe system, which will be more.

Let's just say I'll hold off on an exhaust for now, as it's quite ridiculous. Basically will be over $7k AUS fitted for the standard system. Easily $8k for the twin-pipe.

That's about £4k for you guys in the UK :). For the standard system. Twinpipe will be around £4500.

That's crazy. @.@

Just found that video on YouTube. It shows that the new 8v is as fast as a 8p with revo stage 2+

Not really a ideal comparison to be fair, the Stage 2+ S3 is on very low settings for some odd reason?!?! If set up correctly then the Stage 2+ car should easily have the legs IMO.

Any suggestion for brake upgrade for stage 1 or maybe stage 2 s3? Still waiting for the car to arrive, but doing some research now to kill my time. Thank you guys.

Audi R8 8 pot calipers with AP racing 360mm floating disks and pagid blues, probably around £2k

Bunch of BBK kits available already. Alcon to name one.

Even the TTRS kit would be a good upgrade.

Thanks, but don't you think a 8pot is overkilled for S3? Although I'm sure it will look awesome! :)

TTrs brake upgrade is kinda meh to me, and still very heavy. The weight saving is also another benefit I would be considering when changing brakes.

Im pretty sure that the full kit I mentioned weighs less than one side of the kit currently fitted to the S3.

Overkill is kinda dependant on how far your taking the s3 power wise and obviously on track the standard brakes will be garbage.

The pedal feel is perfect and the stopping power is ridiculous and they look sweet. Ill be going for that kit when the power gets upped.

Edit - R8 kit is 4 pot, its the RS4 kit that's 8 pot.

Thanks for the reply. I'm now doing some research on the ttrs kit, but do you think this kit can fit on the 18" wheels which comes with the pp without spacers ?

Without spacers probably not.

I don't rate the ttrs kit tbh, its very heavy and isn't that much of a step up over standard.

A lot of the TTRS guys at VAGOC binned the stock brakes off for something better pretty quickly after getting their cars. A popular solution for them was the RS4 8 pots.

I'm sure the 8V RS3 and new TTRS brakes will be a great retrofit option in the future. Either wait until then or go to AP Racing or Alcon for good brakes.

Anyone know what the standard brake set-up on the 8V is? i.e. what is the diameter etc? Appreciate they wouldn't be good for track days, but ' how do they compare to an 'average' brake set-up of a 'normal' car?

They're probably about 350mm, and better than the average brake on the market by quite a stretch for normal road braking. Where they suffer is that VAG use soft compound pads which aren't hugely effective for track use (but give good road feel), and these in combination with standard large disks aren't that great at heat dissipation of gases when used repeatedly and hard. Drilled / grooved disks help to expel gasses more effectively but are more prone to cracking. If you go for more racy pads sometimes they can take a bit longer to get to temp for road use, but aren't too bad. I'd say TT-RS set up would be pretty good.

A mate has just swapped out some Alcon brakes for RS4 (wavy disc) brakes as the Alcons constantly squealed and rattled.

Looking at APR's facebook page software is imminent

If they have something ready for the beginning of June is be impressed. That would be only 9 months since first S3 deliveries and it is a totally new engine and platform.

Yeah I guess they've been working on the siemos 18 ecu in the golf 7 gti for a while though. It seems from the facebook posts the new gti, s3, golf R, has moved into pole position for software development at APR HQ and its about time.

I think they've recently finished off a development cycle on the bigger engined S and RS cars so now can fully concentrate on the bread and butter stuff.

Yeah r8 rs4 and s5 supercharger, new RS6/7 software, now its are turn, and I cant wait.

Just received this from an ASN member, I'll post the graphs tomorrow

****Back from the dead****

How art thou comrades?

Been keeping tabs on the thread in the last few days and i'm in a predicament, do i go for the MTM tuning box championed by Silky and Nervus ( i like the sound of it)

Or do i wait to see what APR have to offer?

Oh and has PilotAudi finally been banned??? To be fair it was more overdue than Justin Bieber's overdose...

Cheers!

He has gone! The 8V section should now be a haven of calm and high brow interaction ;-)

I started to quite like him in a weird Stockholm Syndrome kind of way?

Anyway, i'm sure he'll keep the Phantom Black based Audi paint company in business for the next billion years...

Welcome back jonny how's the extractor fans? ;)

Didn't know pilot audi had been banned, seriously how does a 50 year old get banned from an Internet forum the delinquent haha.

I'd wait for the APR over the MTM for sure. Literally no one had MTM on the 8p S3 engine they've always been a bit meh. Proper remaps ftw!

Dropped in a BMC air filter today.

Pulled the plug on the Forge FMIC as well. Will be about six weeks before I get it though.
Not sure on what to do with my Shark box. Run it as is with the IC? Bit of a pain to send it all the way back to the UK from Oz to get it remapped.

DP....still contemplating. May go custom. I can't justify spending $2500 for a piece of 3" stainless steel with a cat from Milltek or Supersprint. That and having to hack off my system at the catback to fit their DP. Am going to one of the too tuners here in sydney to see what they can do. They can build it to mate up with the whole system.

He'll have a job, it's just been discontinued on the S3 8V model so will likely be discontinued on other models shortly. His purpose in life has been marginalised ;-)

To be fair, the Milltek system isn't just a bit of 3" stainless pipe, it's the electrically controlled valves in the backbox that make it so expensive. They're not just little flaps that are opened with exhaust gas, they are actually controlled by the ECU. These are really expensive to buy as you cannot use the original valves!

Yeah I don't really care about that. I can always unplug the motor as it doesn't cause any issues, other than in VCDS.

Might be a fair price for you guys, but $2500 AUS (and then a few hundred to install) for a Milltek DP is stupid. I can get one made up with the exact same gains installed for $1000. 304 stainless steel with 200 cell cat. With a bend joint for engine flex as well.

With a bend joint for engine flex as well.

And therein lies the key that has blighted so many 8P owners with Millteks. QC isn't what it once was, I think you can now get equivalent for less unless you want trick valves. I wouldn't buy another.

Bang on. Mate down here had the same issue with his Milltek on his 8P. Took to three different exhaust shops before he finally found one that could make it fit straight on.

Well I've just dropped my car off to get it's Milltek fitted along with 19s at the same time, I'll let you know how I get on...

Guess it's a pain if you're the other side of the world! Luckily for me Milltek are only 20miles down the road!
It's the first Milltek I've had on a car and I guess it was easier that my car was used for development, so I didn't know about all these issues as it just came back to me fitted and working! Although they did have a problem with the valves working that delayed them getting it back to me.
Wonder how RobH is getting on with his scorpion?!
