Recieved a Diesel tuning box today for my Audi A3 2.0TDI 140. Followed the instructions on fitment and found the car wouldn't start, it would turn over but not fire. Tried all the connections again, left ignition on for 1 minute and tried again, still not fire.

In the end we had to take the kit back off and put the standard plug back on to the engine, it fired up this time but sounds awful. It's juddering badly when revving and pulling away, sounds like a tractor and is gutless...it's vibrating quite a lot too, so much so that I pulled over. I'm now stuck at the start of a 4 day bank holiday weekend. It sounds as if it's misfiring or running on 3 cylinders, or engine timing is totally out?? Engine light is also now on.

Any advice on this please?

Probably not the case, but the juddering when revving and pulling away etc you mention sounds exactly like the symptoms i got when a IC pipe popped off.

First port of call would be a scan with vcds and see what it throws up.

I can't even move the car now, it won't fire up at all :( I don't get how removing one part and re-fitting it can throw up such an issue. Just tried taking it apart again, re-fitting it and re setting the ECU. Still nothing, it's flashing up ESP Fault, now though.

What tuning box were you using. You really need to get a diagnostic code reader connected and see whats going on.
Where abouts are you in the country.
If the tuning box was fitted to the fuel rail pressure sensor which is the normal thing on a common rail engine and it had an issue it's possible it could have damaged the ECU. The ECU generates a 5v feed that supplies several sensors on the engine, you need to check that this is good.

PDd Diesel Tuning Box - Audi A3 2.0 TDI PD 138 Bhp / 140 PS / 103 Kw

I was using the above box. It turned the engine over ok but it never fired up, so being short on time I took it all back out and put the standard connection back in. The car is now completely knackered, makes an awful noise trying to turn over, won't fire up and my dash is like a Christmas tree. Angry is not the word as it was the most expensive variant of the box, and I'm now without a car on a bank holiday weekend, with it being stuck in an underground residential car park.

I'm out at Norwich.

James

Thanks for that Sandra, I have sent a member a message from the Norwich area.

Hoping this hasn't just cost me an ECU and a whole lot of hassle as well as the costs of it being looked at. Unable to contact TDI Tuning until Tuesday now.

I think I'd be getting back in touch with tdi tuning to ask them what's going on if it's there box that's ****** things up

You didn't buy the box from DTUK (me) if you had you would of been able to contact us 24/7 by phone or email.

from the link you've posted you've bought a box from TDI-Tuning... So if you could be so kind to edit the above post as I don't want potential customers thinking we've caused your issues

My apologies, I have amended my post.

Cheers James,

The PD plugs can be a bit awkward to connects together, my advice would be check the main injection plug and make sure you've not bent one of the 9 pins...

We found the injector plug an absolute nightmare to line up, if we got it lined up it then wouldn't tighten up. I'll strip it all down again tomorrow and try get a better view to check all the pins before re-attempting. The factory plug slotted on no issue at all and tightened up fine.

What year is your engine? Is it the 140 pd or the 140 create? I know they do different chip boxes as I bought a pd without realising there was a difference but never fitted mine realised my mistake first
I'm in Norwich if u need someone

Mine is a 2006 2.0 TDI Quattro, I ordered the box online suitable for the 2003-2007 (IIRC) 138bhp 140PD via the car specification finder on there. As far as I'm aware though mine should be common rail?

Would be great to have some additional knowledge tomorrow if you're available?

Where abouts does it plug in? have you got a fuel rail running over top of engine which that plug in on left hand side?
Yer I should be about tomorrow where abouts are you?

It plugs in down the right hand side of the engine as you look at it, on the side wall of the block. I don't remember seeing a fuel rail to be honest.

I'm at Riverside near Carrow Road Football ground, i'll PM you my mobile number and address,

Thanks

What's your engine code?

Will be in your handbook & printed on a sticker in the boot under the carpet

If it's BKD then looks like you have the right tuning box (140PD engine not common rail)

A little update, thanks to SBailey1988 and a laptop I now have a car back! Flagged up a load of error codes, cylinder 2, misfire, injectors the whole lot it seemed... As well as some other funky ECU things! 1x located broken plastic pin and a re-set and the problem was solved.

Thanks for all your help, and also Toby for also offering his help.

Hi CA51HAM,

Many thanks for returning our call, it was good to speak with you. As discussed, our office was closed over the Easter public bank holiday.

The keyway on your particular engine can sometimes be relatively tricky to engage. However, I trust that this matter is in hand and I look forward to speaking with you again shortly.

Regards,

Steve

Thanks to the guys at TDI Tuning who invited me to their base today and did a full diagnostic run on my car and discovering that unaware to me, my car was already running a non standard map. This then meant to plug and play box wasn't able to communicate with the ECU like it would on a standard map from the start. Instead I had a full custom ECU remap on site as well as a few other issues ironed out during the diagnostic. The car now pulls like a train and has no turbo lag, instant torque and tonnes of it! Really felt the difference driving home!

Thanks for all the work this afternoon

Always good to see companies going the extra mile for customers. Good on you TDI-Tuning.

Glad you sorted your problem :)
