Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone can help - I've got a 2010 A3 2.0 TDi automatic cabriolet, and wanted to know about fitting a flat bottom steering wheel to it.

My car currently has the normal wheel including the multifunction buttons and wheels, but also has the gear shift +/- paddles.

Is there an official Audi flat bottom wheel that has all the same controls and the paddles that I could fit to my car? I need the controls to all work as I use them to control my RNSE volume, phone controls etc, and obviously I still want paddle shifts on there too :)

If there is a wheel that fits, is it a simple case of physically fitting the wheel and then some system programming to make it all work properly?

Cheers in advance!

Will.

I did a FBMFSW fit to an A4 B8 2.0TDI that already had exactly the same as yours and it was a straight forward removal and refit. No coding reqd as it already had the correct modules fitted and coded.

As mark said it will just be a straight swap with no coding as you already have multi-function, all flat bottoms with paddles and buttons will fit and work except for the newer style ones, the buttons are different to your current ones and if they are buttons won't work

Just fitted my MFFBSW with paddles and you need a loom with this part number 8J0971589H nothing else will work, i got mine s/h of an ebay seller.

Thanks for the info :)

The wheel I'm looking at is here:

Genuine AUDI DSG Multifunction Flat Bottom Steering Wheel A3 A4 A5 A6 TT Q7 | eBay

There's no Audi part number listed though.

My car isn't DSG, it's the standard Tiptronic 6 speed auto gearbox - I assume, as there's no DSG logos on the gear shifter etc.

Would the above wheel be usable on my car, paddles and controls would all work fine?

Don't want to make an expensive mistake :notme:

That wheel is fine.
I thought only DSG had the paddles? I am not sure if you add a wheel with paddles they will work :/

Hi Lee,

Yeah I'm totally clueless about the gearbox differences - all I know is that my car is a 6-speed automatic with paddles on the steering wheel that work for manually shifting gears.

The garage that has always done work on my previous Audis seem to think that it's not a DSG but they haven't seen my current car yet. They reckon my car is a standard 6 speed auto with paddle shifters.

They reckoned that all DSG cars will have the DSG logo somewhere on the gear selector lever, which makes sense as my mum has a new Polo automatic and that has a little DSG badge on the gear selector lever.

ahh right yeah ok you need a wheel with the paddles, tbh if you can change gear now using them i can't see why the new FB wheel wouldn't.

It might need coding with vcds after install for the telephone to work (if that is fitted already) mine is via bluetooth.

This is my selector can't see DSG on it anywhere

That's not true. Only the Stronic levers have a logo. DSG doesn't

Yours is definitely DSG

Excellent, thanks Lee, Immo and all - much appreciated.

Lee - that photo is exactly like my car - the gear lever, numbers, surround etc identical, and the paddle i can see on the far right of the photo looks identical to my paddle too!

As for the coding, DannyK9 on here did the coding already when he fitted my RNS-E, so all the buttons on my steering wheel work fine, as do the telephone functions as my car came with the phone option from factory - Danny reckons it won't need recoding at all if I want to fit a flat bottom wheel like the one in the Ebay link I posted.

Again, many thanks for all the expert advice as usual - great stuff.

Its a straight swap with correct looms, just be mindful of airbag light, 8P dsg/stronic is irrelevant, work using the same wheels anyway.
