Hi guys im new to this site and im very much liking it :)

I am currently going to join the Audi club and am currently looking for my 1st Audi baby lol.

I have seen a 04 plate saloon and it has done 79k miles and timing and water pump was done 4k miles ago it has a gmbh S line kit on it and it also has a full service history.
It has MOT till Oct and Tax till June.

What are your thoughts on a price for this car? it is in very good cond.

I'd pay up to £4 grand for it if it was mint including interior etc with no dings dents or rust.
Obviously full service is good and the miles are low.

I think first and foremost checking that all the carpets are dry and more importantly that there is no standing water inside the plenum chamber - the compartment under the bonnet (directly beneath the windscreen) that houses the battery, ECU, brake fluid reservoir, etc.

The drain plugs at the bottom of the chamber have a habit of blocking up with debris causing it to fill with water and after getting to a certain level and sploshing about, it starts to run behind the dash and cause havoc with the vehicle electrics.

The carpet-checking part is in relation to the Comfort Control Convenience Module which is under the passenger footwell. Again, natural flow of the trapped water is sent down that way so it's always good to check that the carpets are all dry, although this being dry in itself does not necessarily mean that there is no issue with water ingress.

Obviously the electrics behind the dash (drivers side) can be dried out and a good clean out of the plenum chamber (+removal/tailoring of drain plugs) will hopefully prevent it from re-occurring again in the near future, but I believe if the convenience module has been affected they can be a tad costly to replace. Most of all it's just annoying to have a bunch of lights flashing up on the dash and the car going into 'limp mode' every time it rains.

It would also be good to see a clutch/flywheel having been changed at that sort of age/mileage. To be fair my clutch lasted 11 years and 63k and I figures that was pretty good going. New clutch and DMF would set you back approx. £7-£1200 depending where you go.

Couple of other minors:

Slow wipers - sign of mechanism/linkage beginning to seize.
Rear wash/wipe - the washer jet often gets blocked and/or causes the water pipe to pop off it internally often causing water to get sprayed around and causing damage to the wiper motor.

To be honest they're all minor things, I don't think there's anything majorly disastrous on these cars in particular, unless you go for an auto; they're known to be a bit troublesome at times.. All in all the 1.9TDi 130 is a pretty bulletproof engine, hence variations of which are still being used in their current models today. As mentioned before in other threads, hope to find a stack of receipts showing that the car has been looked after and had money spent on it other than just the routine servicing, which pretty much tells you jack other than it's had some oil and filter/s changed in its life.

Can't really go to far wrong with them to be honest - cracking car. Good luck!

EDIT: Actually, I lie. Looks like they use 2.0L engines in the very latest A3/A4 models. Still, the 1.9 had many many years of reliable service across many different makes and platforms.

No probs mate. Yeah, maybe you can use that as a bit of a bargaining tool if it hasn't been done yet, least of all due to the fact that it will cost a fair wedge if you ended up having to change it during your ownership.

What I can say is that, I spent a fair few months looking for my b6 and found loads of saloon quattro's around for 4k ish, a few very tidy 1's aswel.But they are just big enough for me. Also all depends what ya lookin for lol
 
going to look at that B6 tmw so hopefully i drive it home, then i can start modding it :)
 
What cheap upgrades can I do to one of these to give it some more power?
 
in terms of bang for buck a remap should be first on the list every time. Makes the car drive like it should!
 
Pound for pound I'd say a remap. Not necessarily cheap but its the biggest power boost you'll get for your money until you start going into the realms of turbos, updated intercoolers, updated injectors, etc.

Then maybe a decat down pipe. May only give you a couple of bhp if you're lucky but will certainly provide better exhaust flow helping turbo to spool up a bit sooner and slightly better response through the rev range.
 
How much is a remap roughly, sorry but I've never thought about doing anything to a diesel till I thought about getting an Audi. Now I'm finding out that there's loads I can do to them :)
 
I think you can buy these tuning boxes for something like £45 which does a similar thing. Have a search, a few guys on the forum have them fitted. 'Off the shelf' and 'live' remaps start from around £150 and up towards the £3-£400 mark.
 
If you are going to get a remap done it would probably be wiser to get any engine mods you're thinking of getting done first then have a live remap carried out therefore taking into consideration the specific mods your engine is running. Be a bit poo if you paid a load of money to have a remap then end up changing a bunch of stuff which alters the fuelling, intake, etc, then have to fork out for another remap to then get the best out of your engine again. All depends how far you're planning to go and how much money you're willing to throw at the car. There's lots you can do to a turbo-diesel but Beware! It can fast become a wallet-bashing, wife-divorcing, kids inheritance spending addiction!
 
im not going to go too mad but i do see your point, tbh id just like it to sound a bit nicer and to have some nice styling to it not anything ott just some subtle touchs. it already has the gmbh S line kit on it which i think comes as standard and ive been looking at the rear roof spoiler.

No doubt. The difference a good remap makes is enough for most folk. The B6's look well after a few subtle touches here and there.

And yeah, it is a good forum :) The guys (and girls) on here all seem pretty genuine, helpful and like to have a good bit of banter without the snottyness and cliquey behaviour reminiscent of other forums I've been a member of. Me likey.... :yes:

How easy are the roof spoilers to fit? is there much drilling to do?

If i do get this B6 tmw ill post a pic if its easy enough to do :)
 
That I couldn't tell you I'm afraid. Mine's an Avant and already had the roof spoiler fitted so I haven't the foggiest. Google search might bring up something..
 
Went and saw the car today and brought it it was what the bloke says it was, very clean and well looked after inside and out with only 1 scratch on the rear bumper, although after a test drive I found out that a wheel bearing on the front was shot so I managed to get the price down to £3000.

You guys got any ideas how much a wheel bearing is to replace and is it an easy DIY fix?

Wheel bearing is not a big job,but you will need some special tools,as kris said it's cheap enough to have a garage do it
 
good lad 1.9 tdi 130 best diesel engine vw/audi made in opinion.
i actually bought mine looking for a 1.9 rather than a 2.0, everythings cheap and easy to replace diy.
mine had never been looked after when i bought so replaced everything full service,cambelt,fluids and clutch and flywheel and to be honest i paid about £300 for a sachs full kit and fitted it myself on the drive,a few hours to do quite straight forward if your handy with a spanner.
as its for the wife i wasnt allowed to do too much but remapped it myself with a clone lead and black smoke remap file and it pulls well enough and still get 40's around town, just wish it was a 6 speed on the mway!

Thanks TDI :) funnily enough i was looking at your plug n play remaps as your only 20 mins down the road from me.

Ive just been remembering what the bloke was chatting about when i brought it and he said something about it being a redeye engine??? what does this mean and what does PD mean also?? are these any good?
 
Red Eye means its a TDi - hence a 130bhp model.

Pump Deuse refers to the method of fuel delivery, Google will explain it far better than I.

Just found these buttons hidden in the door pocket, what are they for?Image
I tried looking in manual but couldn't find them.
 
If I had £1 for every time.....

One will disable the interior sensors, for example if you leave a dog in the car. The other disables the anti vibration feature, for example if the vehicle is being moved on a recovery truck.
 
It's a mettalic Mauritius blue, looks really nice polished up.
