Unexpected handbrake release

Pull up. Foot on break pedal. Foot on clutch. Apply handbrake. In to neutral. Clutch up. Foot off break pedal...

Handbrake releases itself.

Manual box.

Normal or faulty?
 
Heres one. Stop on a hill. foot on break pedal , foot on clutch in first gear , no handbrake. Release break pedal car won't roll back for a second or two ?? It's like there is a delay on the break

Anyone else notice this

Isn't that Hill Assist? (Or whichever the non standard option is called!)

Did you spec the optional extra?
 
^ Post #4 describes normal behaviour of Hill Hold Function.


Hill Hold is standard fitment on all A3 8V, manual and S-tronic.
Hold Assist is an optional extra.



^Post #1 - always apply EPB with foot on foot brake, but clutch UP (not depressed).
 
Surely the hold assist is just the foot brake. If you've applied the hand brake it should stay on until you try to pull away?
 
If it is hill hold assist should I not have a button beside the handbrake??

There are two types of assistance but they are named inconsistently. The basic one comes as standard and will hold the car on the foot brake for a few seconds after you lift your foot.
I suspect veeeight has the answer. You must lift the clutch before applying the handbrake. Seems poor design to me though.
 
Possibly, it thinks you're trying to move off (by lifting the clutch from a depressed position) - so it is helpfully trying to release the handbrake for you.

You can test this out by re-creating the scenario in Post #1 - but with the seatbelt unbuckled. See if it refuses to release the handbrake.

This is a fault... I have had mine corrected now, audi released a software update for this.. I had mine done the start of the week and my car was the first car it was found it to happen on.. Audi uk only came up with a software update for this not last Friday, the Friday before. I have made a thread regarding this previously.. Take it back to be changed. Mention about the software update audi uk have just released for this problem !
