Help please !!!!Hi I've got a 2003 2.0 tdi sport 8p and last night a warning light came up saying left rear light so I've removed the cluster changed the bulb and it still doesn't work.the right side works fine but not the left.is it fuse related which I would Imagine there both on the same fuse .pulling my hair out trying to find the fault

Sometimes the canbus system just needs to be reset, usually by turning lights/ignition on and off

It's also possible that you've changed it for another dud bulb (it may be new but still possible)

Swop out the bulbs to the other side and see if the bulb out warning follows it over...

The bulb that brought up the fault was good.it works on the right light.also plugged the right cluster in the left harness and it didn't work so the cluster and bulb r fine

Then it needs a scan with VCDS to check for faults, sounds like the control module for that cluster is faulty

I started having bulb warnings popping up on start up turned out my lights were leaking water and all the contacts were corroded!
Had the clusters replaced and been fine since!

I had a bulb that was good give me errors. Just swapped it out anyways and was solved.

Seems Canbus bulb checking likes to have hissy fits when it likes.
