Too Much Oil been added?

Hi, I had a major service done by a Vag specialist about 2 months ago.

Today I thought I would check the oil to see how it was going and to me it looks like it has been over filled.

What do you guys think?

I've highlighted the two bends in the dipstick which surely indicate minimum and maximum. The oil is way above these.

Looks like it has but seems to be a school boy error to fill that much, have you lost any water lately, if not it been over filled IMO.

Haven't lost any water no. I dipped it about 5 times.

Does the fact that it's a dsg make any difference?
 
I'm surprised your oil pressure isn't sky high with that much oil. Lucky you haven't blow a seal!
 
I did have a puff of smoke out the back last week, could that be related to this oil level?

Someone else has told me I should've checked the oil while the engine was running as its an automatic??
 
No your dsg has it own oil.....I would most likely empty the full lot out and but some new in, unless you can empty the correct amount out as that'll do some damage to your engine, oil seals suprised your car is not really smokey.... Think is 4.2ltrs but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
 
Always check oil when the engine is off you won't get a c erect reading if it's running.....do you dip the engine while it was running this time?

This reading was when the car was level, cold and switched off.

The smoke out the back last week was reminiscent of a James Bond cars smoke screen!

That's why I thought I'd check the next time it was parked on the level.
 
Normally 4.5 litres if oil filter changed. Two ways to drain oil. Sump plug or vacuum pump it out.
 
Thanks for all the replies everyone. I'm actually going to the garage later in the week that put the oil in so hopefully they'll sort this out.
 
Slight update.

The Vag garage have said they will drain and refill the oil and also check the engine out.

After doing around a 1000 miles like this is will there be any damage and if so what do I look for please?

Which garage was this?
 
They prob just poured the whole 5 litre bottle in.... Over filling by 0.5 litres.
