Can anyone give me a clue as to my poor FE. I have an Audi A4 Avant 2.0 TSI Quattro S LINE with 7 speed box.
I have had the piston issue fixed and revo to 305bhp. However this did not change my fuel economy prob, it actually made a slight improvement.
That said, usual driving, if I see high teens I smile and the best I have got on motorway was 28 (500 mile run all motorway) and that was driving so perfectly it was silly.
I have done or had done every test I can think of and with no faults found. I have replaced things, cleaned things and had things serviced with no joy. The odd thing is if I cain the life out of it, the FE is about the same over the run. Nothing I do makes any difference. All the figures are worked out properly, I don't rely on the DIS. I always use V power.

Any thoughts anyone? I am not willing to accept Audis answer which was, and I quote., "THIS ENGINE IS RUBBISH FOR FUEL ECONOMY IN THIS CAR". Why? I know many people with the same car that get 30 all day long.

Thanks
Ant

Yep, Matt does all my work, he is going to Service it soon and I am going to ask him to have a right good rummage. Just trying to get some ideas first. Audi looked at it when they had it in 11 times for the pistons, but came back with the above comment.

I have exactly the same car with revo stage 1 and I have seen 35mpg on motorway runs.
My car does use a bit of oil and has not had the pistons changed. It has had the oil separator changed before I got the car.
Don't think I would get very far with them changing the pistons as I have had the remap. My car is a 2010 with 89k on the clock. Mileage is pretty high for the year but I do very few miles so should average out overtime as I intend keeping for a few years.

Loving the remap car is such a sleeper!

Same engine with rebuilt engine currently on 80k (10 since rebuild) However mines FWD and manual.
If driven hard mine will return low to mid 20s. My normal tank to tank fill up working out the sums I achieve mid 30s with 50/50 motorway and town driving.

Every few months I visit my sister in London and the whole journey 462 miles with cruise set to 70 the car has returns 43mpg worked out.

I also use v power. Apart from your Quattro and auto I can't see how yours can be so much lower? Out of curiosity what rpm does your engine sit at for example at 70mph? I'm guessing it should be less than my manual in 6th and theoretically more efficient? Mines approx 2200 rpm @ 70 in 6th.

I get mid 30's combined and around 43 mpg on long journeys! It's actually well know how ECONOMICAL this engine is for a petrol. The Quattro and auto set up you have will effect your mpg though.

Mine is the same spec as yours and is going in in a couple of weeks for the piston replacement.

I average around 24 day to day and can get 30/31mpg on a motorway run. Never seen anything close to 40mpg!

My god in my S4 I see 30+ on motorway trips and mid to high 20's when having some fun!!

My old B7 2.0t fwd manual used to average high 30's and achieve high 40's on long runs.

Can't believe how much less efficient the b8 version is.

Yeah, Quattro will reduce it a fair bit, on paper the auto is better. I have been told that as I have the Multi 7 speed and not the S-tronic 7 speed that will effect economy as the multi is a lot heavier, but still. TEENS?? Really?

Eh? Really, I thought the b8 Quattro has the s tronic 7 speed and the multitronic is 8 speed fwd only although 1 gear.? Or am I wrong here?

I'm getting around 26-28 around town and 31-33 on a run (mixed driving) stronic Quattro 2.0tfsi

No both boxes are available in the b8. Dealers get confused, the only way to tell properly without getting under the car is too check the chassis number on etka which the dealer can do. The Multitronic box is 81kgs havier than the s tronic which is A LOT!

Ah I see, learn something new
Has it got paddle shift on wheel?

Well that answers your mpg problem I would say.

I was a bit dubious about getting an auto tbh after choosing manual every time, but got to say this stronic is really good and not bad on mpg considering (I'm used to the lazy driving now too :) )

Yes it has flappy paddles and it has the same double clutch for fast and smooth changes, it is not cvt like the multi tronic in the b7. However it does employ older tech hence the weight.
I would say it does account for the economy prob but as I have said I know peeps that have the same spec as me and get much better economy.

Looking at the 2009 brochure on the Audi website, if the 2WD multitronic is 35kg heavier than the equivalent manual and the 4WD S-tronic is 25kg heavier than the equivalent manual, how is it possible for the multitronic to weight 81kg more than the S-tronic?
