[h=2]Hi I am looking to buy this car. Im not really a mechanic just know details about the car. I am worried about the following issues: oil pump going and something to do with the oil pick up. Is there anything I can do to prevent these problems? Any other problems known with this car? I really like this car but is it really worth the hassle? Compared with say a MK5 GTi?[/h]
thank you.

haha yeh how did you guess  I think they are overpriced though to be honest. Whats your opinion? I have been looking for a good few months for one. I remember last year cars with same mileage were going for around 8k. Also how can I stop the oilpick up and oil pump problems?

That's BUL engines in the DTM aren't they? Thought the oil sludge issues mostly affected the 1.8t engines. There has been recent posts of DTM owners having oil pump failures...imho it's the luck of the draw....not sure you can be 100% sure any engine model would not drop it's oil pump....haven't oil pump conversions ( gear to chain ) failed too recently If it was me and I could afford the work, I would drop the sump, change the oil pick up filter, and change the oil and filter every 6-10k miles and use a good quality magnetic sump plug. Even a low mileage FASH car is no guarantee you won't get issues futher down the road. As for what to look out for...check this thread Mucker. http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/audi-s...8-looking-2-0tfsi-any-advice.html#post1724953

I would say they a little over priced but lower mileage ones the try hard dealers will add more on because they think there is a demand which there actually isnt.

But personally is there any particular reason you want the DTM?

Because if I can make a suggestion, I mean I dont know your financial situation or if you going to trade your current car in etc.

But there is this vehicle for sale:Audi A4 2.0T FSI Quattro S Line Special Edition 4dr

Which is seems like the better buy thou this is just based on viewing of the ad and pictures. But its the same - phantom black colour, alloys, engines, bose sound system. Roughly the same mileage. 2 owners. New tyres.new front disc and pads. The only visual differences will be front and rear bumper, front grill, larger tail pipes thou it has same exhaust system and 2 carbon fibre pieces. And of course the alcantara interior but then again some prefer leather its a lot easier to maintain and if you spill anything its a breeze to clean on the alcantara I wouldn't say the same. By no means am I trying to put you off the DTM I mean I own a sprint blue one myself and its a great car. But quite frankly had I shopped correctly the smarter move would have been the special edition s line quattro because they were the last run of the Audi A4 in that shape and Audi threw loads of extras into them. Which really makes the DTM look like a lessor car even thou there was only a limited run of them. But then again so was there for the special edition. Oh and you get fog lights on the Sline and not on the DTM if that matters.

And considering you are not mechanically minded as you said. Why not save your self £2000 for almost the same vehicle? Just a thought. So if you have the doubts about the oil pump and oil pick up you have a budget to play with considering you are prepared to spend 9.5k already.

Just to clarify about the oil pump and pick up situation the later models didn't suffer so much with this issue above. Thou there have been a members recently having the above issue. If the car is currently mechanically sound the best thing would to do is take it to a Audi dealer or a Audi specialist. Have them remove the sump and put the revised pick up pipe unless its already on there but you can only tell once the sump is off. And while you there you can get them to change the oil pump for the sake of maybe £500-£600. You should be happy motoring. Just do more frequent services on the vehicle and use decent oil fully synthetic. People tend to put these cars on a long-life service plan as it means the car only needs servicing every 2 years. Which is the worst thing one can do for this vehicle especially because it is turbo charged one should run the vehicle on at least 1 year oil/oil filter change unless your pocket can stretch to do it every 6 months thou again depends on your mileage.

There is loads of information on this forum if you need any help or assistance because 90% of the time someone has already suffered the same issue were it be a oil sensor to the rear brakes making a noise etc.

Hope this helps.

Thank you you have helped me more than enough i really appreciate that. Sadly the car I wanted sold for 9k. I offered the dealer 9k he resused, then ends up selling it for that price? Bit of a joke :banghead:. I do like the special edition, but its the dtm and all the refinements such as the bumper fins or whatever they are make it stand out.

Im also considering other cars. I really want a white audi or golf and they are really overpriced. Its just a waiting game I have had a lot of bad luck, car always gets sold when I ring the seller.

Oh dont worry I feel your pain. But dealers are *******s. They either like to live in guilt all there life or are just soulless. Money > everything.

So many times I have rung up a dealer offering the asking price. Either get the old oh there is someone here that is offering that or someone is actually viewing the car currently they will get back to me. Its like im about to transfer the money to you and you worried about the guy viewing the car.

I find personally white audis are very hard to come by unless you looking in the new shape because there is just tons. But of course the price has not dropped much yet.

It really is a waiting game. Or you can just buy my DTM :yum:

Its easy to rush into something when you have the money but the sensible thing would be to shop around. I know the temptation is very hard.
