b5 1.8 s-reg wont start

Hi my friend has a b5 1.8 s-reg and it won't start . Last night he tried to start the car and it wouldnt . He has got the imobilizer light on the dash and it's flashing . Is there any way this can be overridden . Any help would be good cheers Steve .

If the immobiliser light is flashing, there's a fault with either the key, the immo box or most likely the igniton coil reader & wiring.. Give the little 2 pin plug in the coil reader a wiggle when you try to start it..

Where abouts are you?
I have tools to check the immo system, and also to over ride it.

Does the car start then cut out?

Yeah it's starts for a second tops and then cuts out . I'm in Manchester but the car is in stockport .

Does he have 2 keys? If he does he should try the other one.

This, very occasionally happens to mine. I find taking the key out and putting it in the other way seems to stop it cutting out.
This also works with the DAF trucks at my work

I have an intermittent fault on the b5.5 passat. Occasionally won't accept one key but then is ok after being started with the other one.
