Yeah Varta or Bosch, don't go for anything other than one of those

Cheers for replies been looking at bosch theres an s3 s4 and s5, the s4 is £75

Is it cranking slowly randomly or only when engine is up to temperature?

If it's only when hot then it's a lazy starter. The problem is in the software and doesn't inject diesel until 280rpm, causing the starter motor to work harder. Can be fixed with new starter or a remap to edit the hot starting.

If it is struggling at other times/ when cold then ignore the above!

Ignore my comments then, fit a new varta or bosch battery and job jobbed :-D

Will I encounter any problems after changing the battery with the electronics or will everything be ok ?

Can't imagine so. I've had my battery off countless times without issue :)

Spot on I was just worried some things may reset or not work after battery swap thats all , I can handle resetting the clock if thats all that will be altered thanks

Park with the wheels straight when you do it. When you turn the car back on you'll get some warning lights and a serious looking message about the steering. Don't panic, the car just needs to get it's bearings. Take it for a short run and they will clear within 30 seconds.

What I did find was the one press to automatically close the electric windows stopped working. Wind the windows down all the way, wind them back up again (holding down the button). After a couple of attempts the car finds the "range" of open and close and all is well.

One of my windows was troublesome and refused to do this but an ignition cycle and trying again fixed it.

As I understand it the car just needs to discover the range of what is open and what is closed on each window. When it has found it, it stores the info and the feature works again.

So changed my battery last night for the Varta Silver, same performance and guarantee as the bosch but half the price. No brainer really.

I've had the same issues as chinny mentioned. The ESP and steering wheel sorted themselves out on a short drive and about to go and try the windows now. Hopefully thhat will sort it.

There seems to be loads saying they are for the a3 yet they are different sizes and powers which did you go for and what price mate? And did the windows sort themselves out?

Differing sizes and powers could be to do with what features the car has, mainly air con. As without air con the alternator is a lower rating, so it could be the battery is different too.

I was told today to look at existing battery. Some come as 60amp and some at 70amp. 70 is dearer of course.

Southy, go to batterymegastore.co.uk, sort by vehicle and select Varta Silver. Dependent on vehicle it should be about £50, free next day P&P. It's the same as the bosch silver in every way including guarantee.

On the windows, yes they are now fixed. All you do is put them all the way down, continue to hold until you hear a little click/thud. Do the same for putting the windows up. The little noise is the actuator resetting itself.

Cheers for that I will get one sorted
