A3 buyers: what is your reason not to buy the saloon?

Wow, this thread is getting quite heated, shouldn't be as each to their own

In the 8V section it's mandatory isn't it

It has to be said, the 8P section is a much nicer environment ! :p
Sure, you get the occasional spat, but that's what it is, and it soon sorts itself out.

I think folks need to chill out and not be so arsey...

We bought an S3 Sportback because we love Audis.. have had loads of 3/4/5/6/7 TT versions and at present liked the idea of a 300PS... Hatchback needed..... and roof bars occasionally...

IMHO ... cars and PPs are like politics .. we all have views that many/most disagree with but IT's our vote/choice/opinion... so get over it folks...and play nicely....

Just to join in on the over-opinionated way this forum often presents itself in; saloons are for Americans, salesmen and/or people of a certain age.
Have never owned one and don't intend to anytime soon, not whilst there are hatchbacks and coupe's available.

:whistle2:

Yep.

Leave politics, ego, pigeon hole-ing and the unrelenting desire to present opinion as fact at the door, and you'll be fine :)

Oh, nearly forgot, IMHO :)

Not exactly the interpretation I was expecting Mr 8. I believe a challenge on all the above is vital and there is a link to individuals choice of car, politics, PPs and whatever . Just ask the marketeers including Audi and currently with their dog lovers theme.

What people should do IMHO is play nicely and not make personal attacks as some do. Human behaviour is fascinating!

If I needed a saloon I would consider an A4 or A6 both good cars. For me the A3 is more practical in Sportback form.

Despite the Saloon being very nice, the hatchback looks nicer, imo.

That's pretty much my reasoning

The saloon would be too long for my parking area.
And the last saloon I had was a MK I Escort.
Much prefer the practicality of a hatch.
Can't get a decent sized coffin in a saloon either. ;)

Why I went for the Hatch:

- I wanted my car to look like everyone else's on the road in the UK as I have to conform to what everybody else thinks is best
- I wanted the slightly less good looking S3 model to attract less attention from other motorists to risk them attacking me with paint stripper
- It was cheaper so I could spend the spare money on solar orange paint to increase resale value
- I reguarly want to use my £40K S3 to lug dirty dogs, or garden waste to the dump, the saloon didn't cut it

I find those comments rather objectionable.
Just because everyone else hasn't conformed to "Joes best A3" choice you try you find ways to belittle them.

Well, enjoy your minicab, and the rest of us will enjoy our cars.

Sheesh!!

Sheesh!!

Hey, it was meant to be a joke and tongue in cheek, so sorry if you took it the wrong way. If you review my other posts you'll see that I'm very supportive of other peoples choices, its very much each to their own, so not meant to be offensive

for me I don't like the look of the saloon. But that's my opinion.

Joe, it's supposed to be why we made our choices, not why we were wrong.
I'm sure you will be extremely happy with your choice, as the rest of us are with ours (although I do regret not speccing ACC), or will be when it is delivered.

As they say, opinions are like ar5eh0les, everyone has one, and most of them stink.

Still, I'll take your comments as having slighty more humour in them in future.
Can't find a smiley for "bury the hatchet" but just assume it is here.

So it is ok to insult our purchases by alluding them to be no different to an orion then? So if I find those comment objectionable because it comes from a A3/Sportback owner you are saying that is ok? This whole thread started as nothing but, yet another, a dig at the Saloon owners and, apparently, why they made a bad choice
Sheesh!

That was a reaction to the comments Joe made.
You see, A3/SB drivers can dish it out as well.

Not saying it's right, just a comment, just as Joe's comments alluding to A3/SB being not much better than a dustcart (alright exaggerating, but....) are.

I'm sure you will be happy with your choice, just as the rest of us are with ours.

Could finish this by putting IMHO or "Just sayin'" but really don't feel the need.

My reason was that they don't produce a 2 Ltd 184 yet. May well change in a couple of years time if/when they produce one.

Lets face it folks the A3 looks brilliant, the Sportback looks like a family car and the saloon looks like a afterthought........ Whoops :crying:

I was at my Audi dealer today and took the opportunity to take a new look at A3 saloon black pearl. Not so bad actually, like how the BMW 3 series should look. Anyway, I like my practical sportback and don't regret it.

I wanted to order the saloon but came down to timing and I couldn't wait 4 months to get the saloon so opted for the hatchback and to be honest no regrets.

I think the A3 saloon looks nice, but not as nice as an equivalent A4, so if I wanted a saloon I'd have the 4. I bought the A3 Sportback, because it it had a 184 engine, and I can fit the dog and fishing tackle in the boot! Practicality really.

Wanted a sports car so went for the SPORTback ;-)

The only thing sporty about the A3 sportback is the name. You sir have been beaten by Audi's marketing department if you genuinely believe otherwise.

Edit: Just noticed the cheeky wink of sarcasm - consider my hat tipped to you Louay.

I think the "what is your reason for buying an A3 saloon over an A4" is a more relevant question.

The problem with the a4 is that it is based on a old car due for replacement very soon and it isn't a nice car to drive. In fact a barge has better steering...

The steering in my current A3 is not perfekt at all (altough not entirely bad either). I rally expect an improvement in my new one.

Audi have a habit of building cars that have steering devoid of feel. Compared to my Focus epas even the A3 isn't that good but at least the best of the bunch...

We both think the saloon is the better looking car. My wife made the decision to go for the Sportback, mainly because it was more practical for her work.

I was going to get the s3 saloon but the real headroom and unknown but possible lower retail value put me off... Plus it's more though it has bigger wheels and I'm looks nicer than the sportback
