A3 1.8T maximum tuning potential

How far can the 8L A3 1.8T engine be pushed stock?

I'm seeing bolt on ECUs and turbos ranging up to 350bhp... surely the engines not this strong?

Im thinking of to begin with, an induction kit, uprated oil pump, sports exhaust to start

Then either a turbo or ECU upgrade

Now, theres a 200bhp ecu, and a 225bhp upgrade, and a 350bhp turbo. I presume an intercooler would also need to be ordered about the same time.


How good is the clutch/gearbox? What do you think the engine can take without any engineering?

I want to reach the best performance i can achieve without replacing the whole car, naturally. I also dont want it to blow up in a week of tuning.

Yep and has been for ages without any power related problems. RyanC has an S3 with around 340bhp that's been working for ages too.
 
Been beaten to it! Yep 320bhp with no probs whatsoever!
 
1.8t is a extremely strong engine for stock.Me and Rich do have stronger varieties of the engine.
 
Standard engine.
Although i am now upgrading a few bits.

The earlier versions of the 150bhp engine and the 210bhp engine used stronger parts than their successors...

They get 350bhp out of the 1.8T engine used in the Formula Palmer Audi single seaters, but I guess that's not really a stock scenario, but gives you an idea what the real top end is I suppose.

agu=20mm pins,forged crank,largeport head.
There's plenty of bam,amk engines running around with 350bhp.
